AIBU?

To ask a friend to send ds's belated birthday present?

Ds1 turned 5 last week. A friend said that she was going to get him two specific moshi monster toys as part of his present, ones he's been after for ages. His birthday has been and gone and the friend said he will get his present next time she sees him but although I've said 'when do you fancy meeting up?' she hasn't got back to me. Given how I infrequently we get to meet it will be ages away!

Ds is still asking for these moshis and wants to put them on his Xmas letter to Santa. Do you think it's unreasonable to ask my friend to meet up soon / post the present or does that sound really greedy and spoiled? I just feel for ds who was really looking forward to these particular moshis and didn't get them in the end for his birthday. Not quite sure what to do!

How far away does she live? Are you likely to bump into her around town etc? I can see your dilemma though, I'd be the same.

I think id get them myself for his christmas list!

What has happened in the past with presents?
Maybe she couldn't get them or she can no longer afford them. I would let it go and let your little put them on his Christmas list. If they do eventually appear, you can always re gift them.

I think yabu, sorry. She said when she next sees you, so I think that will have to be at her convenience.

I'd just get them, and then re-gift the ones she gives him, if indeed she does

No, I don't think you should do this. I think it's pushy.

It'd be cheeky I think to ask her to send them, there might be lots of reasons why she hasn't like she's skint and can't afford it any more.

Your DS will be fine without them, they always want loads of stuff they haven't got a hope in hell of getting so one more thing he might get at some point won't make any difference.

YABU

Get them for christmas, if you buy them online you can return within a month if they come from the friend

If you're not meeting up for a while she may not have bought them yet.

I don't think you can ask for them. You could buy them and say 'oh, I stupidly let slip that he might be getting these for his birthday as he was going on and on about them beforehand, he hasn't let it drop so I've bought them for him now. Moshis are very much this month's thing, you know how immediate childrens' enthusiasms are, this one may last, may not'.

She can return them or give to someone else if she has them.

You could buy them and ask for a gift receipt.

She has already bought them as far as u know and they are only about £5 all in from eBay and she can afford that easily. She lives 40 mins away but we usually only meet every 3 or 4 months. She doesn't have kids so don't think she realises how big a promise of moshis is for a five year old!

Or if they're not such a passing fad, he could wait until Christmas.

They are 'ultra rare' moshis that I sent a link for on eBay as she said she wanted to get them for him so I assume she did buy them! Think ill just get them from Santa then.

But if you only see her every three or four months and she said she'd give them when she saw him, they were never going to be on time were they? Did she promise him he'd have them on his birthday?

I agree OP. I'd just go ahead and buy them myself.

Thought it was my close friend posting as I have still to meet to give her little on his present!

If she contacted me to ask me to do this, I would be more than happy to do so and wouldn't be offended in the slightest.

The only reason I don't do this as I look forward to our catch ups which are few and far between and if I did post it would mean that we would end up not seeing each other for even longer than it is at the moment as we are both so busy.

I would buy them. If she doesn't have children she won't know that they have memories like elephants! You can always put them on eBay if you o get them.

Just Leave it, bit rude to ask. Just get them yourself and re gift if she does get them

Bit rude to ask and the suggestion of looking on her eBay username to see if she won them is also crossing a line IMO! Just get them and then register the spares if they do turn up.
