Hey y'all

If you have D&V 10 hours after taking the combined pill are you still protected? Took mine at 8pm (usual time) and was best mates with the bathroom between 6 and 7am.

Sorry for TMI!

You may be ok but even if there is only a slim chance that you are not is that a risk worth taking?

The pill is absorbed using the natural bacteria in the lower gut, not from the stomach, so google how long it takes to get that far.. although if you were already colonised by other bugs before you actually had D&V it still might not work

stinkinseamonkey Sun 04-Nov-12 11:16:18

in short I wouldn't feel confident about the cover

You probably are, but "probably" isn't good enough if you definitely don't want a pregnancy! Going by the book, you should use barrier methods for 7 days.

CookingFunt Sun 04-Nov-12 11:21:04

Do you want a baby? If not and you did the bumping of the uglies last night you can go get map. Don't forget to use condoms for the next seven days.

YABU

Condoms for 7 days.

I'll assume that you haven't had any sex yet...

Unless you want to be pregnant, of course.

stinkinseamonkey Sun 04-Nov-12 11:44:44

p.s. If you've had sex or are planning to in the next week without MAP/condoms, and you get pregnant, it won't be an "accident" it'll be your choice IMO

Naysa Sun 04-Nov-12 11:51:44

Don't know why OP would be "bumping uglies" if she's just had D+V tbh.

Well if she took it at 8pm and d&v hit at 6am that leaves 10 hours in which she could have sex.

stinkinseamonkey Sun 04-Nov-12 12:18:10

she could have had sex before the symptoms started that week, or after they finish (but within 7 days)

McHappyPants2012 Sun 04-Nov-12 12:19:55

I would use condoms for 7 days, better be on the safe side

grapelovingweirdo Sun 04-Nov-12 12:24:15

Hey

Thanks for the advice. I will be more careful for the next seven days smile

Grape x

grapelovingweirdo Sun 04-Nov-12 12:25:27

And nope, no bumping uglies for me yesterday and definitely none until I'm feeling human again! x

Trills Sun 04-Nov-12 12:26:47

Hope you feel better soon smile

My friend had one episode of d&v whilst on the pill and ger daughter is 7 next week. I wouldn't chance it if I were you

Isandri Sun 04-Nov-12 13:00:52

All I know is that you need to use condoms for 7 days afterwards to get your protection back up. I'm not sure how it works for the pill and sex you had just before the d&v. If it was me I'd take the MAP.

CookingFunt Sun 04-Nov-12 13:06:41

Get well soon xxx

featherbag Sun 04-Nov-12 13:45:52

That's what a friend thought. She now has twin boys !

grapelovingweirdo Sun 04-Nov-12 14:20:32

thanks everyone. i can be a little naive at the best of times so am very grateful for your advice x

McHappyPants2012 Sun 04-Nov-12 14:27:25

I must add that 7 days after the bug has passed.

Hope you feel well soon.

grapelovingweirdo Sun 04-Nov-12 14:43:02

thanks!

If you take your next pill on time then you should be fine. With my pill you only need condoms for 7 days if you miss two. Thats based on what it says on the pack, not me assuming.

Your pill stays in your system for 12 hours, the pill just keeps it topped up. It isnt like miss one = you ovulate.

Wellthen Sun 04-Nov-12 15:08:45

Sorry that should say take your next one straight away. Treat it like a missed pill.
