So we mined into our new (raf) house this week. They came and installed the box fine but we still have NO PHONE AND NO INTERNET.

Ds(13) is starting to twitch, he can't Skype the friends he has left behind, or play online with them.

I am expecting the police any time, as the au pairs friends must have declared her missing after this long an absence from Facebook.

They think the problem is at the exchange, and can't tell when it will be fixed.

Worst of all, the mobile signal here is shit, so I can't always get on MN Shock Angry

I feel your pain but raise you on your few days. (Sorry!)

YANBU sky are indeed shit!

Sky are not shit. I'd cry without my Sky tv. If you've just had it installed then there is a delay til everything is ready to go.

I realise it is only a few days, but on top of everything else it is driving me mad.

We have had to move, move schools, my commute is now shite, New uniforms, dh is off to Afghan in less tan three weeks, the au pair wants to leave at Christmas.

And breathe

Yanbu. This has happened to us on our last two moves!! Taking over a month each time and we still hve Internet dropping out issues which aren't being resolved. Every phone call to them means at least 30 minutes of the same troubleshooting procedures for 30 mins at a time, sometimes I have been cut of and had to start again. I have been on the phone to sky for over 15 hours since our last move. The only thing that made a difference was emailing the CEO (I don't do it all the time, honest!) But when customer services and their managers are getting me nowhere I know that will.

If you feel like you need to do that now let me know and I'll post the address!

I know how annoying the wait is but when everything is up and running you'll wonder how you coped without it. It has box sets of Cracker, Cold Feet, Mad Men, Dexter etc on Anytime +. You can watch films that have just been released on DVD and it has hundreds of films, tv series to watch there and then. Sky just keeps getting better and better. Its mine and dh's treat to ourselves.

Yanbu. Sky are total shit, I've worked for them for quite a while in the past and they are terrible.
Virgin is so much better. It's faster, cheaper, better services, has proper catch up telly, cheaper movies to rent.

I HATE sky.

We were with virgin, but they arent in this area.

New update is that BT are shit. Apparently the problem is now with them.

BT are most definitely shit. The shittest of them all. But having had experience with all 3 (Sky, BT, and Virgin) I can confirm 'shit' is the only way they all know.

You're in my thoughts as we went without TV/internet/phone for 2 weeks recently and it is hard

Tiredmumno1 · 03/11/2012 12:36

We had a similar problem Norma, and it was the same reason, it was BT's fault, had to wait weeks for them to come and sort it out

I had problems with Sky Phone & Broadband when I moved house a couple of years ago. TV service was fine, that was installed the day after I moved in.
The internet router took ages to arrive, I was told by 4 different people at Customer Services that it had been sent out when it hadn't.

I used a dongle for the time I didn't have Broadband, just topped it up with credit as and when I needed (which wasn't often as I was very careful about how much I was using).

We had to wait 5 weeks with Talktalk. Serious internet withdrawal symptoms! We brought a dongle at PC world with the company who had the strongest mobile signal (they will check for you). I think it was about £30 for 3 months.

They do warn you that it can take a while when you move - we were warned it could take up to 2 weeks but iirc it was a few days.

Report
NormaStanleyFletcher · 03/11/2012 16:53

We were.given no warning of any delay. They just needed to make a simple change at the exchange they said. Ee did book this some weeks ago.

the problem is always BT, not SKY.

You are paying SKY for the service, but BT still have to install the telephone line for you.

Our company works for Sky and it is frustrating as it is usually about 6 weeks wait for the phone line to go in from date of order.

YANBU, we moved house and the sky tv is fab but ten we either get phone or Internet as for some reason they will not work together Hmm

My problem was that I was with Virgin Media before I moved, I rang to let them know I was moving and gave them my new address. Then I rang Sky to find out how much their TV/Phone/Broadband package was, turned out to be considerably cheaper than Virgin. Cancelled Virgin Media the same day when I found out I couldn't get their TV service in my area.

Moved into the new property, TV installed by Sky fine, waited for the Broadband box and rang them when the expected delivery date came and went. Found out that Virgin Media had taken over the phone line even though I had cancelled my account. Had to wait another 2 months for the phone line to go to Sky and then the hassle of getting the Broadband.

They are all a shower of shite. Have virgin/telewest at the mo but took WEEKS after we moved to get the engineer out it was the same company and got a credit of £75 but still pisses me off that an engineer can do school hours 9-3 but regular hours that suit a real job. EG 6am-8am or 5pm-9pm no can do. WHY?!

Report
Brycie · 03/11/2012 21:59

You have to install your own broadband. Have they sent the router? They activate the phone line remotely if they can, then you install the broadband yourself.

Yes it's truly crap - I don't doubt you bought this as a package and have had the TV too long for the cooling off period.

Please note even if you get truly pissed off beyond everything and decide to cancel Sky broadband and phone, you cannot cancel the TV as they are separate contracts.

Be warned.

We have the router. No phone. No internet.

We have not any much choice, as freeview doesn't really work here either.

And when we do get the Fucking internet it will be 1.5 when we were on 30

They were on dial up here until not so long ago.

I have, it seems, moved to Narnia.

Norma is it too late to cool off and go to virgin. Sky will be awful for you. You can get sky sport on a virgin package.

Oh I assume you aren't in a cable area. If you are still in the cool off period can I suggest you phone Sky and tell them you want to cancel - just to force someone round. If you've got a week left in the cool off period say you don't trust them and you want someone round on Monday/Tuesday/ in plenty of time. Say if it's not working on the eve of the cool off period you will cancel everything.
