...so that DS doesn't have to ever find out that the fox eats the little gingerbread boy in the end :-(

And you must never ever let him eat a gingerbread man, or woman, or read him a real fairy story other than the Disney version. Smile

YABVU. The ending is the whole point of the story. Supposing a fox ever offers your DS a ride across the swollen river, how will he know it's dangerous?

Ah yes, but in our world the fox is a friendly fox, who is helping the plucky little gingerbread boy cross the river to get away from the little old woman (who put him in an oven?!) and the horse and the cow who want to eat him...

Ooh I'ver just today received my free copy of The Gingerbread Man [due to buying McCains Smiles for the kids Blush]

I didn't realise it had such a sad ending... maybe I'll have to edit it slightly for soft hearted DS1!

YABU! My dd knows the story by heart and her favourite part is when the fox eats the gingerbread man!

My dd loved that book, as we finished each page and went to turn it we'd both shout "...aaaand DON'T TRUST THE FOX!" and she would giggle madly. It has a good underlying message too - not everyone who helps you is genuine. But that's a bit too subtle for a 3yo!

My DD has always loved that story - it has never bothered her that the gingerbread man gets eaten. Just part of the story!

As for me, I never liked the gingerbread man (braggard, and mean to the nice little old couple) and think he got what was coming to him.

So yes, YABU I'm afraid.
