To not miss my DH?

I'm at my parents' with the DC for a few days, have been here since Friday.

DH is at home - well, at work, but YKWIM.

I'm not really missing him though, like I usually do when I'm here. Is this normal? I'm normally on my own all day during the week with the DC so it's nice to have some extra hands.

I just spoke to him on the phone & felt a bit sad that I didn't miss him, if that makes any sense.

Well, if my DH was here I wouldn't be spending all day on mumsnet that's for sure! grin

I see my partner about 3 times a week and it suits me fine. No, I don't miss him at all when he's not with me. I love our time together but I also like time on my own. Nothing wrong with that at all.

It's not mandatory to miss your DH/DP when you're not together. My DH is away right now and I can't say I miss him particularly. Unless you're reading this, DH, then I'm pining for you.
I have plenty of things to do here anyway, and as long as I know he's ok then we're fine as we are, although that could be due to the fact he spends long periods of time overseas anyway.
He's only away for the weekdays at the moment so I have enough time to do my own thing but not so long that we really miss him.

You need to read the very funny thread about Women Gone Wild when their DH is away and you will soon see that you are not alone.

BobbysBeardOfWonder Tue 30-Oct-12 14:51:51

Oh phew smile

If I were away from my DC I would definitely miss them more blush smile

Kingcyrolophosarus Tue 30-Oct-12 14:51:55

My dh just this minute sent me a text asking if I miss him.
NO is the answer

But it's different, he's at home without us, which is unusual
We are having fun with family

BobbysBeardOfWonder Tue 30-Oct-12 14:55:21

Yes King that's it isn't it. DH all alone at home (sob) - me & DC having masses of fun with GPs grin. Even though I'm knackered it's better than missing him.

GiserableMitt Tue 30-Oct-12 14:57:16

I can remember, way back in the mists of time, being upset because a day came and went when we didn't actually speak to each other (but did text).

18 days of no speaking in the middle of a month and a half separation put paid to that wink

DH was away last week and I didn't miss him one bit. He missed me, apparently, and I lied through my teeth and said I missed him but actually I find living with someone day in day out quite hard and it's lovely for me to have my own space now and again. I couldn't manage months and months of separation but a few days or weeks is great. DH is a great man, easy to live with, kind and funny but boy is it nice now and again not to feel so...married smile

I am very good with my own company.

I don't get bored, I don't mind being alone.

I rarely miss DH.

I miss the DC, especially the baby if i don't see her much in a day, but that's because she is changing so fast that there is something to literally 'miss' if you aren't there to see it IYSWIM.

BobbysBeardOfWonder Tue 30-Oct-12 15:30:04

I'm very happy in my own company too. DH tries to make me feel guilty about missing him (or not) though. I suppose I'm still with the DC too (yippee!)

FolkGhoul Tue 30-Oct-12 15:31:20

I don't ever miss people.

Not really an 'out of sight out of mind', but if I know I'm going to see them again, then there's not need.

I don't miss the children either if they're away somewhere. I do look forward to seeing them again as pick up time arrives. But I don't miss them.

valiumredhead Tue 30-Oct-12 15:37:54

I like my own company.

Oblomov Tue 30-Oct-12 15:53:11

Dh asks me if i miss him. And i honestly don't. He hardly ever goes away. Two or three times a year. To stay with his best mate and hour away.
I love it. Get a bottle of wine, watch .... Revenge, Downton, Boardwalk Empire, Jamies 15 minute meals/ whatever i fancy. Go to bed early. Its great. Why would I miss him.
Don't feel bad OP.

I am very happy with my own company too - I don't miss my DH when we are apart, which is quite often as he works away, we often take separate holidays too grin - I don't miss my DS either, although I guess we're not supposed to admit that. He is off on a camping trip this w/e - I know he will have a great time, I would hate to be camping (in November shock) so of course its great that he can have that opportunity and I can do something I will really want to instead of the usual compromising at weekends which bores me senseless if I am honest.

Mrsjay Tue 30-Oct-12 15:59:32

But you havnt been away long enough to miss him it is only been a few days suck it up grin I was away for a week without any DH or DC I didnt miss them because i knew I was going home, missing is a bit needy imo wink

Dogsmom Tue 30-Oct-12 15:59:47

I miss my DH a bit if I'm away but nothing like how much I miss my dogs.

this ^ is how I feel I love seeing them again but don't miss them

Wow. I'm sure he thinks highly of you, too grin

I miss DW when she's away, but I quite enjoy eating curry, playing DVDs with the sound cranked up and killing things on the Playstation.

I get a honey-do list for when she's away, and I program my time in around that, too.

Oblomov Tue 30-Oct-12 16:05:10

Ds1 was away for 5 days on Cub Camp this summer. I didn't miss him either. I was too busy working, carring on with life, and looking after ds2. What extra time do you think I had, in order to actually have the time to miss him? wink

BobbysBeardOfWonder Tue 30-Oct-12 16:17:10

Feeling much less guilty now, ta! grin

Maybe I should plan more of these trips wink

CailinDana Tue 30-Oct-12 16:17:52

He thinks I'm fab OMC, but then, why wouldn't he? grin

Ah he's great really, I'm just a miserable old fecker.
