Because my mum thinks it isn't, and I should cut mine. It's very cheap to have long hair and also you can tie it up when you can't be asked to wash it

Cathycomehome Sun 28-Oct-12 16:56:07

You're, not your.

Cathycomehome Sun 28-Oct-12 16:56:42

And arsed, not asked blush

MamaMary Sun 28-Oct-12 16:57:12

Not too old, unless you're grey ;)

LemonBreeland Sun 28-Oct-12 16:58:21

YANBU. I am 35 and am growing mine as I feel in a few years I won't be able to have it really long anymore.

Your Mum is talking codswallop, does she want you to get it cut all short and have a Granny perm like everyone used to do in the olden days.

GhostofMammaTJ Sun 28-Oct-12 16:59:18

I am grey but I dye it. I have long hair (MN haircut) and love it. I was forced to keep my hair short as a child as it was wild and curly and would stick out if allowed to grow. What my mum failed to realise was the the weight of it when long would pull it straighter and make it less wild. I will never have short hair again!!

Cathycomehome Sun 28-Oct-12 16:59:25

I'm not grey, but even when I am, it'll still be cheap and easy grin

WorraLiberty Sun 28-Oct-12 16:59:38

As long as it's in good condition and not 'witchy' looking it's fine imo

GhostofMammaTJ Sun 28-Oct-12 16:59:45

I am 45 by the way!

Cathycomehome Sun 28-Oct-12 17:02:00

The only disadvantage I can see at the moment is that the baby who has not yet learnt to let go keeps trying to yank it out of my head. Perhaps he agrees with my mum...l

vodkaanddietirnbru Sun 28-Oct-12 17:03:43

hope not because I am 38 and am trying to grow mine a bit longer (in the process of dying it to get rid of grey as I type)

wonkylegs Sun 28-Oct-12 17:05:47

That happens with babies no matter how long your hair is at least long hair has a bit of stretch and doesn't hurt as much (IME)

SoniaGluck Sun 28-Oct-12 17:06:10

GhostofMammaTJ This was my experience, too. My mother didn't have a clue how to look after my very curly hair - to be fair to her neither did I until about 8 years ago - and my hair was regularly cropped short when I was little. I was desperate to have long hair.

I am really reluctant to get it cut now as I spent a very long time with short hair that I hated. I'm a lot older than 35.

Latara Sun 28-Oct-12 17:10:25

Cheap?? In what way is long hair cheap? That's an odd thing to say.

Tell your mum it's the 21st century.

(Plus i'm 36 & growing my hair).

Cathycomehome Sun 28-Oct-12 17:15:59

Well, it's cheap because you don't have to go to the hairdresser to keep it in style very often if you cut the split ends off with nail scissors you can easily go four months or so

catgirl1976 Sun 28-Oct-12 17:17:20

I'm 36. Mine is long.

FolkGhoul Sun 28-Oct-12 17:26:21

I'm 38. Mine's just below bra length.

My mother told me I was too old to have long hair once I was 21 which was the same age she also told me I was too old to dye my hair black (as black hair is ageing!) and go to nightclubs. And the same age she told my DH (best friend at the time) that he was too old to cycle to work.

In fact, it transpired that in her book you became 'too old' to do pretty much anything once you hit 21!

On the back of that, I have decided that you're never too old to do anything!

fluffyraggies Sun 28-Oct-12 17:28:55

Older than OP and hair nearly waist length here. Mine's dark brown with a big purposefully un-natural looking blond streak at the mo. i haven't actually seen my natural colour since i was 14 and dont intend to any time soon smile

I'm lucky i have 'straight and floppy' rather than 'frizzy' so i don't have to do much to it. My mum chopped her own lovely long straight dark hair off and got a perm' in her early 30s and thinks i should have done the same. No way!

My MIL is in her 60s and has long straight dark but greying hair. She always has it in a bun or in a low simple ponytail and it looks great. Very elegant. I think the days of having to have short hair once you're over 40 are gone now. Grow old disgracefully and enjoy! grin

poachedeggs Sun 28-Oct-12 17:30:17

I'm 31 (and greying, but dyed) and am growing it because I feel a bit like it's my last chance.

Might get it chopped after reading this - time to grow it later! smile

osterleymama Sun 28-Oct-12 17:30:23

YANBU. Long hair can look nice at any age. I also quite like long grey hair on some women, especially if it's nicely groomed, I think it looks classy and unusual. I'm 30 and it's never occurred to me there's a hair time-limit.

NamesKerry Sun 28-Oct-12 17:30:53

I'm 38 and have very long hair. I couldn't imagine having short hair, but i'm sure the day will come soon when I realise i'm too old and need a granny cut

TobyLerone Sun 28-Oct-12 17:31:53

I have long hair. I'm 35. I'm not grey and don't look like a witch.

ZZZenAgain Sun 28-Oct-12 17:33:13

it is fine whatever your age if it is well kept and not too thin. Most women find their hair thins as they age and so it sometimes just doesn't look good long anymore. If that isn't the case, I don't see what your age has to do with it.

MrsjREwing Sun 28-Oct-12 17:35:36

Does your DM want you to get a short back and sides? YANBU.

samithesausage Sun 28-Oct-12 17:38:28

34 with long hair. I hate having my hair cut (haven't for 2 years or so) so long is the best style for me!
