AIBU?

Do you want your child to learn God Save the Queen at School?

Is it important for all children at school in Britain to learn the National Anthem no matter their country of origin? Would it help integration at all? Or simply be a good way of increasing a sense of patriotism? Is it important even though so many people don't believe in God and don't support a monarchy?
Are you happy for your child to learn it? Would you like a different National Anthem?

I can't see why they need it in school. Teach them yourself if you want them to know it.

Yes. I am British and proud of our Queen and heritage. As a family, we are also Christians, although I take the use of God to include gods of all faiths.

Some of us do exist and would like our children educated accordingly. I would be more appalled if they weren't taught it somewhere along the line, along with the really important bits of British history such as Kings and Queens and about the two world wars.

Yes! It's our national anthem. I was Shock [sorry don't know how to put emoticons in] when one of our olympic gold medalists said that he hadn't wanted to learn it before his event in case that spiked his chances. I thought "surely everyone learns it at school". Apparently not. The lovely Gareth's next project?

Oh - now I know. It does it for you when you type the words in the square brackets!

I hope they teach the children to sing. Nothing's worse than Gawd Save our Queen hideously out of tune.

I don't think learning a song is powerful enough to poison your mind, turn you into a Monarchist or turn you Christian, so, no, I don't mind them learning a National anthem.

I know my Welsh national anthem word for word, but I don't speak Welsh. Still learnt it and it hasn't harmed me or turned me into a Welsh Nationalist.

It's a song. It's not contagious.
