Feeling so miserable about it that I have had to retire from the ironing and hide away upstairs. Am I really hormonal or would you be upset too?
I hate knowing the ending of books and have been looking forward to reading this for years, we are doing it in my book group and was enthusing about it to him when he said 'By the way, you know that at the end she......'.

Is it not widely known that the end of Anna Karenina is that she ..........? I only started reading it after my dad told me the ending. It took me 2 attempts over about 2 years to actually finish though, I found it quite hard going in the middle.

That is annoying of your DH but TBH am surprised that you didn't already know. It's a bit like not knowing that spoiler alert Jane Eyre and Rochester get it together at the end.

Yes, he thought everyone knew, but for some reason I didn't! Even after a degree in Literature (albeit not Russian). Still going to read on, a little deflated. My DH will be relieved that general consensus is that it isn't that terrible a crime... I will read on.

If a book is only as good as it's ending, just read the last page.

YANBU, but hopefully even by knowing 'the big secret' of any book it will still make reading it fully thoroughly worth while.

I would have been upset too! I read Anna Karenina earlier this year (just before I read Fifty Shades- I'm a bit of a book tart!!) and I didnt know the ending so would have been really cross if someone had told me.

It's a beautiful book though so dont let it spoil your reading.

It is such an endingy sort of ending too, not just 'they all go their separate ways' or 'she never finds love' or 'the truth is never told'.....

I must have been living in a cave since 1870 not to know, or perhaps it is just the small children restricting my conversation.

I will probably not leave him on this issue alone, but will add to log book of injustices.

I don't know the ending. It's something my OH would do though, "oh is that the one where xxx" YANBU to throw the book at him.

YANBU, it isn't fair to spoil the ending of any book, especially not one as glorious as Anna Karenina. However, I am surprised that you didn't know. I read it when I was in Y9, but I still keep that and War and Peace for when I'm feeling nostalgic. Love a bit of Tolstoy, especially as I teach Russian history at A Level now.

I do feel disproportionately upset. It is as if someone I love and trust has seen the months of pleasure in reading a book ahead of me and taken the edge of them just for the hell of it. He didn't mean to be malicious though, I don't think. Oh well, there are much much worse things!

See, I quite like knowing the ending of a book/film . It doesn't take away from the enjoyment of it for me. I feel like I can just read it and enjoy it as opposed to thinking about what happens. Its probably why I enjoy rereading books so much.

I quite like knowing endings as well and I often read last page/s first as I find I am then less impatient reading the whole thing and don't rush as much. Otherwise I tend to skim-read just to get to the resolution - and then instantly forget what I have just read.

And yy I don't think that Anna Karenina is a particularly easy read, but well, well worth it. Hope you still have fun.

PacificDogwood - I've always liked knowing the ending of a book from I was about 8/9 (I can actually pinpoint the exact passage of the book ) Lets just say I didn't forsee an event happening in Good Wives of the Little Women series where a character expired. I was already reading when I should have been sleeping and my heaving sobs woke my parents That was some feckin' happy Christmas!

I remember watching the first couple of episodes of Anna Karenina when I was about 12 and being bored rigid and then accidentally seeing the last few minutes of the last episode so I know how it ends.

I've never been interestested since in reading it or watching it, I just thought it was dull. I do love, however, knowing how stories end and enjoy reading them again and again. Just not this one.
