To be fuming with replacement postman?

My regular postie is lovely. Friendly, reliable, trustworthy. I take in a lot of parcels for a neighbour and he's always grateful. Thus last week he has been in holiday in Lanzarote - he actually knocked to let me know "in case there were any problems" - maybe he's psychic!

So, we had the stand in guy. We've had him before, he's shit. Late, grumpy. The first time he delivered here he failed to actually look at door numbers, which would have revealed that there's no number 3 in our terrace, it goes 1,2,4,5... He delivered number 4's mail through my door, put mine through number 6, including a cheque I was waiting for that I couldn't then retrieve till 6pm, and he was a rude twat when I went out to tell him what he'd done.

Anyway. Husband has just put done recycling out before going to work, and found a parcel stuffed down the back of our recycling box. It's in a brown cardboard box, and light enough to be mistaken for recycling and carted away tomorrow had we not found it. It's not recycling, though, it's my best friend's wedding present! Posted Friday so must have been left there yesterday, but no indication such as a red card (not that it would have been ok to just leave it on the street still, but at least we'd have found it!). We are really lucky it didn't rain last night. It's a handmade piece of artwork, and the wedding is next sat, so could not have been remade in time.

I will be having separate conversations with the artist about why a £55 item was not sent recorded/special delivery when I paid £10 for delivery, but in the meantime AIBU to be planning to rip the postman's head off?

Ywbu to rip his head off in person but you should complain about him.

WelshMaenad Sun 21-Oct-12 10:14:22

Oh, that's a given.

What about something smaller? Fingers? Can I rip off some fingers?

TomsBentPinky Sun 21-Oct-12 10:26:20

Post yourself a turd so he has to carry it in his bag for a few hours?

ChippingInLovesAutumn Sun 21-Oct-12 10:29:45

Where does the holidaying neighbour fit into this confused

... but yes, fingers are a good start.

WildWorld2004 Sun 21-Oct-12 10:35:52

I think the postie is on holiday not the neighbour.

WildWorld2004 Sun 21-Oct-12 10:37:52

OP i would complain. It cant be too difficult to get the post right.

redexpat Sun 21-Oct-12 11:15:57

Well I think the postie should bear some of the blame, but I would be angrier at whoever made you pay 10 quid for postage and didnt send it recorded delivery.

Little double pronged update:

I messaged the folksy seller who sent the item, making it clear I wasn't happy about being charged £10 for delivery when it cost her £4.30 and she couldn't even be arsed to shell out 90p more for Signed For. She has not replied. WIBU to leave her negative feedback?

I also complained to Roysl Mail. I have today had a letter from the delivery office manager. He says he questioned the pustman who said I had asked him to leave parcels there to save me a trip to the pickup pint at a local post office. I did no such fucking thing! I also drive past said post office at least four times a day on the school run, so it's no hardship at all to collect my parcels. He has asked for my response, I have up phone him tomorrow. I am even more tamping - how fucking dare he lie about me to cover his arse?

oldraver Tue 23-Oct-12 16:40:41

I would make it very very clear he has lied but be aware you may not get anymore post from him

domesticgodless Tue 23-Oct-12 16:40:50

He is a dishonest incompetent twat and you need to make that clear to his boss.

mamhaf Tue 23-Oct-12 21:22:06

You must be Welsh! No other nationality says tamping.

Yanbu.

Ours puts parcels in the bin! Then try to say it was a courier! God knows how many have got thrown away they hadn't even put a card in, worst thing is I have a safe place registered with them but they forgot to tell the new staff.

The regular postman is on holiday not the neighbour (or at least that's how I read it). I'd be pretty narked too, did you ask the Etsy seller to send it signed for?

janelikesjam Tue 23-Oct-12 21:28:21

I am jealous that you have a "regular" postman OP! My local Royal Mail centre got rid of them about a year ago. We have a different postman every day, mostly rude and unpleasant. I don't know if its a union-breaking tactic, or just because its cheaper labour, but its deliberate.
