AIBU?

AIBU to think this woman was quite rude?

I was waiting at the bus stop yesterday and there was a woman there with her toddler in a buggy. She was smiling and playing with her child when her child threw his sippy cup down by my feet. I picked it up and handed it back her smiling... and she just snatched it off me. Shock Didn't even look at me, didn't even say thank you! AIBU to be shocked and to think this is not the best example to set your child?

I think you need more to think about.

She was probably tired and frazzled and fed up with her kid lobbing sippy cups round the place and didn't even register what was going on.

Yes, she was rude. But it doesn't matter that much. Maybe he'd done it a thousand times that day and she'd just had enough and felt like crying?

That is very true, Hassled. I think my judgey pants may be so tight that they are cutting my waist. [grim]

I don't understand why anyone would react like that unless they misinterpreted your actions, though I can't think how. Unless she thought that your handing the cup to her rather than the child was a passive-aggressive way of saying that her toddler didn't deserve to be allowed to hold his cup since he had thrown it away. But that seems unlikely
It takes no effort at all to say thankyou even when you're having a bad day.
This sort of thing depresses me.

Actually i dont think you are bu.. It takes one second to smile/nod your head, she obviously had to register you enough in her head to take the cup from you, so I'd say it was pure ignorance!
You also said they were smiling and laughing before the cup got dropped, doesn't sound like she was stressed or upset to me.
She was rude. End of : )

She was rude. After zero sleep I wouldn't behave like that.

She was being rude - on the face of it.

But I saw two people I'd normally say hello to when I was out in town yesterday, I caught both of their eyes but didn't react because I was thinking of something else and not all there Blush

One I didn't realise who it was until she'd passed, and the other I saw a couple of minutes later and she blanked me. At first I thought she was doing it deliberately, but then reminded myself of why I'd ignored her and she was probably in the same place, miles away Grin

Don't take it personally or think it's the breakdown of society as we know it, she just didn't think.
