So (d)H has just got cross with ds over something and nothing.
Ended up saying "sometimes I think I am the only one with a brain in this house"
So upset about this and worried about the damage this will do to our 2 ds's.
Need to have words I think.

It's a bit of a snotty comment from someone who clearly thinks he's right, but not likely to cause any long term scarring, IMO

Oh purrleease! Grin

I'm sure they won't need to bill him for therapy in later years!

OH FFS.

It was a flippant comment. It doesn't really mean anything. What damage do you think it will do? It'll do more damage if you make a major deal out of something that obviously wasn't mean.

YANBU

I don't think it's too bad unless it's a constant drip drip of esteem-reducing language directed at your kids

My mother/ father spent most of my childhood spurting this comment out.

I'm not scarred. Grin

What do you think is going to happen to your children? Seriously - what? I'm interested.

Oh - and YABU.

Seriously?

I don't get this. surely this is one of those family jokes/catchphrases that make up happy memories? Like my mum saying she was worn out with constant childbearing? Never saw it as anything other than a funny saying that will make me smile to remember it.

mutny · 19/10/2012 19:14

Yabu. I assumed you have never said anything put frustration in front of your kids. If you haven't yet don't be to smug as it will happen.

You say it was 'something and nothing' what was it.

Is this a thread about a thread or a joke? Surely it must be! Yabu.

My Mum used to threaten to send us to Barnardos when we played up.

Whenever the charity collector knocked at the door, we crapped ourselves as we thought they were collecting children - not money! Grin

OP, have you name changed partway through the thread ?

Why did you feel the need to do that ?

It really doesn't sound too terrible

I suppose the tone / frequencu could make it a lot worse though

There could be a good thread starter here

"What awful things do you say to your kids, that you don't mean, and they know that you don't mean"

I presume this is a joke ? Written as a laugh ?
Nobody could seriously be upset by that, surely ?

I was often told I didn't have "the sense God gave little chickens."

I don't think it scarred me. It did make me say "bock bock!"

Report
mudipig · 19/10/2012 19:43

YABU when did having a sense of humour become unacceptable?

Are you now questionning whether you yourself have a brain?
