To Hate Jack Wills....pompous, over-priced, con artists.

I've been on their sodding waiting list for yonks, then today I get an email that tells me 'Don't miss out. You are two steps away from receiving your exclusive Jack Wills Outlet Access. Step 1 - log in on the Jack Wills site; Step 2 - log in on the Jack Wills Outlet site.'

So I follow these two steps, expecting to receive my exclusive access. And it doesn't happen. So I email their customer services. Ha. They come back and tell me I'm stupid. They just meant I was being added to the waiting list. So I go back and say, your marketing is a bit misleading and I thought I was already on your waiting list. And they reply and say, no, you're still stupid, for the same reasons we said earlier!

So, I am complaining. To anyone and everyone that they are a bunch of over-priced, over-pompous shites who just work on being nobbish and charge you loads of money for the privilege. Wouldn't be arsed, but my girl loves this brand and I thought I'd be able to get her a couple of new things for a change, instead of everything being second hand off Ebay :(

I know, I should have better things to worry about, but this had really narked me today...

I didn't know there was an outlet site! Envy
I hate the pretentious shite but DD loves it, I'm hoping she'll grow out of it soon.

I'm still waiting Sad
i have to say, everything I have bought from there for ds and dd is excellent quality. The ribbed vests in particular are brilliant...worn at least once a week and into their 3rd winter.

Not sure about pompous and overpriced as I do think the stuff is very good quality, but I do feel incredibly old in there.

Report

Their stuff is extortionate! The age range that it's aimed at can no way afford the stuff, I always feel old in their because I havn't got my mum and her credit card following me around and I'm 23!

YANBU.

Them and bloody Hollister.

I mean, what's the deal shopping in the dark with music so loud you can't hear yourself think.

I may be a crusty old bag out of their target age range, but I'm the one wielding the debit card so don't look me up and down like I've crapped on your foot!

I love Hollister for the smell and my dc (under 5's) like going in to watch the surfers and it's easy to buy presents for my niece (14) in there. I feel old in there too though.

Yes I got the same email this morning and thought that's me in! Especially coming up to Christmas with a 14 DSD it would be very useful.

Their stuff is lovely but their marketing is not. Angry

Me too! Will also help out if you want.

I like their clothes, it's well made and pretty classic designs that don't date. Saying that, I never, ever pay full price for stuff. Always wait until the "further reduction at sale time or when they put a discount code on their Facebook. It's worth "liking" them on Facebook for that, OP.

I've had dealings a few times with their customer service teams and I did feel they were really friendly and went out of their way to help me out. Maybe you just got a nasty one who found floaties in their tea or something Smile

For con artists look no further than Topshop.

THIRTY FIVE POUNDS FOR A T SHIRT. A t shirt!!! Reduced to £15.

And the website isn't letting me buy things for some reason Angry "transaction declined" I found a pair of grey trousers in Topman for £13....they're perfect.

Jack Wills skirts are lovely Smile but very pouffy and the outer material rips v. easily

quirrelquarrel · 18/10/2012 20:04

Overpriced, definitely though- not paying £80 for a "short". What's a short? One leg? Like a bodycon skirt? I can get those in H&M for £4.
Short, pfft.

I asked DD1 (age 11) about Jack Wills because a friend of mine was looking to get something for his granddaughter who's the same age.

She said 'that stuff is so uncool, my PE teacher wears it'.

I reckon I'm well out of it - hope it lasts!

Report
perceptionreality · 18/10/2012 21:13

I don't think it should be worn by anyone over 21 really.

Thank you so much PinkFairyDust and TheCraicDealer. That's lovely.

I know the stuff is great quality, cos we've got a fair few things, mostly from Ebay. She loves the cashmere blend cardigans and, as she walks to school coat-less most days, I like her to have a nice cardi. I did try to get her a gilet on Ebay, but just couldn't win one for love nor money. I ended up buying her a Primarni, Jack Wills ripoff coat for £15. It certainly beat the £60-£80 I was willing to pay for a second hand gilet.

I name changed as I FB'd initially to vent my wrath and I didn't want anyone to recognise me. I know that's sad, but I referred to MN on there and so, someone could have checked and seen who I was! I don't think anyone could have been arsed, though. I'm really not very interesting :)

I agree. It shouldn't be worn by anyone over 21. The home goods are gorgeous too. I saw some lovely blankets/comforters and pouffes on Saturday when we were in York. What a lovely shop, but my God, how expensive!

I don't often pay more than £12 for a polo shirt, £10 for a tee shirt and £25 for a cardigan. The things look great. I've bought a set of three vests for next year, even though my daughter currently won't wear anything that shows her buds. I'm sure she'll change, and when she does, there are 3 Wills vests waiting for her. Thank you Ebay :)

They have a new outlet shop in Halifax. I went the other day and got some great bargains. If you're only in York it might be worth a trip.

There is an art gallery behind it with a nice cafe if that helps.

I used to love Jack Wills when I was skinny younger. They used to do really good deals in their sales, and the quality was brilliant. Then they became fashionable, and the prices shot up, and the sizes shrank down. Quality is still decent, mind. I sold all my old stuff on eBay ("vintage"!) and don't even look at their stuff anymore. And if any shop reckons I'm going to go on a waiting list to go on a waiting list, they can bog off

Report
pointyfangs · 18/10/2012 21:50

I wouldn't even go onto a waiting list to go into a shop, to be honest. Mind you, it seems there are plenty of mugs people who will, so it must be good marketing.

LOL families. I can't believe I fell for it! I'm usually so darned practical! Everything fits my 11 year old skinny minnie, already taller than her grandma, beautifully though. I couldn't fit my feet in their socks!!!

Mrsminerva Jack Wills is some fictional university outfitter guy who realised that selling stuff with pink and navy stripes, if done in fine fabrics, could make him a fortune. He also makes rather delightful cardigans and stuff...
