To feel a bit dictated to?

Sorry, I'm a bit stressed and needed to rant.
DH's work xmas do has rolled round again, it's a meal followed by a play.
Problem is the play is something that really doesn't interest me a jot, it's very long and including travel there and back the whole thing will take about seven hours.
We use an agency babysitter and besides me being a bit meh about leaving DCs with someone they've possibly never met before for that length of time, it's horrendously expensive.
Anyway DH asked the boss if we could just do the meal and was told that we had to go to the whole thing or nothing.
And as DH sometimes doesn't think things through he said we'd go despite this.

AIBU to really feel like making an excuse about not being able to get a sitter for the whole period? Although I feel personally like telling boss to stick it I'm aware that DH has to work there smile
Or am I just a miserable old gimmer?

why cant he just go and you not?

GhostofMammaTJ Wed 17-Oct-12 21:36:25

Both go to the meal. Then get a call from the 'babysitter' pre primed friend saying you are needed at home. You go home, your hubby gets to go!

Why do you have to go too?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 17-Oct-12 22:44:18

Dont go! Let DH go alone. I gave up years ago. Some of DPs were horrendous!

A play for a christmas do? Whatever happened to 'dinner and dance'? sad

Let your DH go on his own I think.

Katisha Wed 17-Oct-12 22:47:04

How would he feel about going on his own?

FutTheShuckUp Wed 17-Oct-12 22:47:53

Don't go. I've never been to one of DH's works do and vice versa in the 12 years we've been together

Bilbobagginstummy Wed 17-Oct-12 22:48:20

Go!
Take the kids!
I bet you'll never have to go again! grin

Sparklingbrook Wed 17-Oct-12 22:50:29

I don't go to DH's work dos. Why would I want to? confused

WorraLiberty Wed 17-Oct-12 22:53:05

Oh God let him go alone

I can't think of anything worse to be honest

FutTheShuckUp Wed 17-Oct-12 22:53:42

Why would YOU need to tell the boss where to stick it? Is it not your husbands works do?

Viviennemary Wed 17-Oct-12 23:01:11

YANBU to not want to go. Hiring a babysitter for seven hours will work out very expensive. Presumably his firm will be paying for the meal and theatre. grin at Bilbo!

RyleDup Wed 17-Oct-12 23:03:01

Why do you have to do the whole thing or nothing?

TonyMontanasGun Wed 17-Oct-12 23:06:43

I dont know why they're not letting you just go to the meal and skip the play? Tell DH to go on his own, its not like he'll be a loner, these are people he works with.

What's the play?
