Dd vomited in the car on the way home from the cinema. (had consumed lots of popcorn and fizzy pop)
Since getting home had eaten and drank normally and feels well.
Should I send her to school or keep her off for 48 hours?

I'd send her in personally

Me, too.

Unless she's also been exposed to a bug, of course.

Send her in, she is not ill, she has over-indulged!

If she feels well enough and seems her normal self then I would send her. You can always have a word with school and tell them to ring you if there is any problems.

seems very unfair on school who will go by health guidelines that state 48 hours after last episode of vomiting. can you be 100% sure that the popcorn and fizzy pop caused the vomiting ?
This is how bugs get shared so easily.....

I strongly suspect it was that and car journey. Obviously can't be 100% sure I guess. Although generally when she has a bug there is more than 1 episode which hasn't happened this time.

If I kept dd off every time she threw up in the car, she'd hardly ever be there! She does suffer travel sickness though (growing out of it hopefully...2 long car journeys yesterday and no chunder!)

Personally I wouldn't.

How old is she, and will it be fairly simple for someone to be at home with her? Is there a particular reason for her to be at schoo?

7 and would be easy to keep her home. Just seems daft to miss 2 days of school if well but of course don't want to spread germs if it was a bug. Tough dilemma.

Why not keep her off today and if clear send her tomorrow? She will have been 36 hours clear then.

Send her!

I'd keep her home for a day as hobnobs suggested.
You are fairly sure but can't be 100% sure that it's not a bug.
If it's not you risk passing it round a class of kids and their teacher, which isn't fair.

If it is (a bug), I mean... clearly.

Is there a bug going round the school? Dd1 did this the other week, lots of juice and chocolate then some very fast spinning on a roundabout in the park, she was sick once then fine. I kept her off school because although i was convinced it was just the spinning, there was a stomach bug going around - the next day dd2, me and ds all came down with it, so I was obviously wrong and it was the bug she must have just had a mild dose of it, but i was glad i'd kept her off.

I'd send her! Defiantly over indulged. Has she complained of feeling poorly since? x

LST · 15/10/2012 08:37

Sorry don't know where the x come from. V

LST · 15/10/2012 08:37

Same place as the v so it would seem Hmm

I wouldnt.

Bugs are often set off by sugary stuff, as they "feed" on fat and sugar.

(Which is why I usually avoid vomiting during tummy bugs, as I start restricting my diet as soon as one of the kids are sick)

Grin LST. I'd send her in but then again I'm a bit mean!

I wouldn't because you have no idea if it was the popcorn and car journey or a bug.
