Find it really creepy and I imagine someone waiting in the Campari to get me .

I know what u mean salmo I have phobia since childhood stuff too. But then my DP left, and there has to be a certain amount of: get over it and stop being so ridiculous!

I don't like any empty buildings at night - my own home included if I'm on my own.

It's a bit of a phobia of mine going to bed when I'm alone at home. Goes back to childhood.

But it's good to know there are people who can dismiss others fears so flippantly hmm

Wow. I havent come across such a patronising cunt in ages.
Well done you.

And I don't think a feeling of creepiness is particularly related to a statistical analysis of the likelihood of anything happening! Creepiness is definitely in the imagination, but it's definitely there, for some people, IYSWIM.

^"why, Im alone im my house, its not creepy."

You were comparing the OP's fear of being alone in a car park, with you being alone in your home.^

No dear, I have just painstakingly explained you that I wasn't. Get a responsible adult to read it to you if you still don't get it.

do you need it in another language?

Hm. I used to work alone some evenings on one floor of the BBC in Television centre, and that would definitely feel creepy, very different to being alone in a house! I would hear someone coming into my house, for a start, whereas they could get into TVC and my floor without my having any idea.

Flojo1979 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:41:34

I'm with gosak on this one, the creepiness is in your imagination not a genuine risk factor determined by who has keys to the building.
Having said that, I live alone and sometimes get spooked in my own home at night.

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 21:40:57

also you are far more at risk of harm within your house than anywhere else, so indeed it is an excellent comparison. Statistically you're about 100 times safer in your deserted building or in the car park than you are at home.

"why, Im alone im my house, its not creepy."

I give up.

Flojo1979 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:38:24

I get that its creepy so YANBU to be scared in the carpark but unless u never go out after dark then I think u just need to get a grip. Much more likely to get hurt once u get in your car and drive than the walk to it.

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 21:38:14

Either you are totally alone in a building or you are not. In can't be creepy by dint of being deserted and also have people wandering in and out. You need to decide what it is you are worried about.

Tabliope Wed 10-Oct-12 21:36:24

GoSakuramachi - there is no comparison even with the buildings! Your home presumably is only accessed by you and family so essentially secure. A building of work can be accessed by numerous people that you don't know so I'm not surprised OP feeling unnerved.

Flojo1979 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:36:08

Ummm is it time to put kettle on? Tea or coffee?

YANBU and no I don't go out alone after dark. I have ishooos!

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 21:32:43

Oh dear lord, its painful. Look again.

Well being alone in a building which is totally empty is rather creepy^

Why? I'm alone in my house, its not creepy.^

Not car park. in a building. Comparison to another building Had moved on from car park.

I'm not sure I can use any smaller words for you. hmm

OHforDUCKScake Wed 10-Oct-12 21:29:18

Car park. Your warm secure home.

No comparison. You got that now? hmm

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 21:21:54

Are you likely to get mugged inside a building where you are alone?

It's not a daft and patronising comparison, you just didn't understand it. OP said being alone in a building was creepy. I'm alone in a building, saying its not creepy. Have you got that now? hmm

GhostofMammaTJ Wed 10-Oct-12 21:18:19

I work alone all night in a creepy building. I look after elderly people with mental health problems. It is an old building so there are lots of spooky noises, also occasionally one of the oldies will get up and wander around.

I often get scared but I do know that the building is secure.

Going out to a dark campari car park would frighten me, and I do not think that is unreasonable.

OHforDUCKScake Wed 10-Oct-12 21:15:10

How is being alone in your home comparible to being on your own in a car park?

Where are you most likely to get mugged?

No locked doors to get behind in a car park.

What a daft and patronising comparison.

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 21:06:47

Why? I'm alone in my house, its not creepy.

Shutupanddrive Wed 10-Oct-12 21:06:31

What is the job? Are you in car park the whole time or is that just on the way in/out?

Cheekychops84 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:01:05

Well being alone in a building which is totally empty is rather creepy

Sagelyhaunting Wed 10-Oct-12 19:55:22

Yanbu to be scared.
I work nights alone and when I have to go out (technical problem, checking on accesses, fetching the paper etc) I am often a bit jittery.

Take a big heavy torch, make sure someone knows where you are, phone in pocket, keys to hand to make you feel safer.

GoSakuramachi Wed 10-Oct-12 19:54:58

Why would you be scared? Do you otherwise not leave your house alone after dark?
