I got to 5.5 before trying but he wasn't really ready

6.5 mths, and even then was slow to take to it. DD now 20 was only 3mths.

I did with my eldest son, but he was also allergic to cow's milk and dairy products, happy to BF and uninterested in trying food.

My youngest started to be weaned at about 4.5months, it wasn't so much a decision I made, rather he took a huge interest in wanting to try anything he saw anyone else putting in their mouths... so I figured he was ready to start exploring. Though it wasn't a 'dietary' decision and his milk was his main source of food until about 6 months.

I made first attempts at introducing solids just after 6 months, neither of mine were really interested until a couple of months or so later.

All five of mine were 6mths. Ds2 and dd were actually more like 7-8mths before they were interested in solids.

Dd was 4 months but that was with mw involved as she was a milk refuser!

Ds was about 6-7 months, he was never really bothered by food, he loved his milk!

When my dcs were babies, health visitors started to get quite twitchy if you weren't weaning by 3 to 4 months. As it happens I (and several friends) thought this was too early so in my case I waited till 5 months and even then took it gradually.

I didn't. But it was 13 years ago and my HV was advising me to wean. I didn't know any better Grin I can't even remember how old he was. 12 weeks. Maybe 14.

Baby rice. I know, I know. But when you're a new mum with no access to mumsnet Wink you do what the HV says.

Yes I did :) tried baby rice at 5 months as everyone kept saying just try etc (wish I didnt listen I know my own baby) and he wasnt ready at all so I waited until 6 months and he loved it.

Well no - not with either, but when I had my DS and DD (27 and 22 yrs ago) the advice was 3 months not six. And DS being such a gobbling little toad, the HV suggested I wean him at 10 wks.

Given today's advice, I would try my best to follow it, - I see it referred to so often on here, that I feel a bit guilty - would hate to think I had harmed my children by anything I did, albeit unwittingly.

I have to say Ds was completely ready for solids in terms of wanting them and coping with them. DD I waited until later - she was much tinier than DS, and a good sleeper, and generally all round easier and quite happy to be breast fed entirely.

5 months with my DS1 and boy was he ready! Great eater then and at almost 8 still is.

My DS3 was 6.5 months when I attempted to wean him but he was so uninterested. Was still only eating one meal a day at 18 months! God, he's almost 5 and still really only has 1 proper meal a day.

DD1 3 months (was the recommendation then)
DD2 3 months (was 6 month rec, but she was such an unhappy baby, and within a week of starting her on solids she was a totally different baby-even outsiders noticed the difference)
DD3, i think she was closer to 5/5.5 months, can't really remember.

Yes as bf all the time:) I was advised to wait until they tried to grab at food I was eating as babies digestive system isn't developed for more than milk til 6 mns and after, although I guess all babies are a bit different:)

Hecate mumsnet (or lack of) is no excuse... I will fess up to actually TRYING to feed my oldest a baby rice breastmilk combo because I had mastitus and was feeling crappy when he was about 3 months... not trying to poison him of course, just that desparate "I KNOW you'll need a boob in about 36 minutes, but I haven't healed yet...."

Glad I didn't post an AIBU thread on here then, I may well have been lynched. Smile I had mumsnet... I just didn't TELL mumsnet.

Glad my eldest spat it out and gave me a look of absolutely digust.
