WTF does it mean?

It just elicits the response "My bad what"?

That includes you Dermot on the X Factor last night.

ThatBloodyKnid Mon 08-Oct-12 13:48:01

YANBU! It just doesn't make sense. angry

ithinkimightbegoingmad Mon 08-Oct-12 13:48:21

you are old and uncool, invisible and you dont matter grin

alienreflux Mon 08-Oct-12 13:48:36

YANBU!!!! I fucking hate it!! American shite!!

ithinkimightbegoingmad Mon 08-Oct-12 13:48:51

it just means 'my mistake' hmm

MooncupGoddess Mon 08-Oct-12 13:50:03

Oh me too. Especially as people always say it in a slightly smug way. 'Sorry, I got that wrong' would be much preferable in all cases.

BeatTheClock Mon 08-Oct-12 13:50:58

Yanbu and whilst we're at it where did 'back in the day' come from cos I keep hearing that all over the place too?confused

MardyBra Mon 08-Oct-12 13:51:39

"you are old and uncool, invisible and you dont matter".
Yep, got it in one.

I was complaining yesterday about Adele's new Skyfall song and how she can't hit the notes bang on (instead she swoops up from underneath). DD said I was uncool and that's how modern singers sing these days. No. That's how lazy singers sing - and have done for decades.

ChaosTrulyReigns Mon 08-Oct-12 13:51:40

Ugh.

Tis horrid.

And rediculous.

I've just spotted the word gotten somewhere. Is that even a word?

And I hope the "off of" I saw earlier was ironjc.

FunnysInLaJardin Mon 08-Oct-12 13:52:21

YANBU. It's an awful phrase plus it has NO meaning

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack Mon 08-Oct-12 13:52:22

It's a bit like when people say it's well sick.......what?? is it good then, is it bad? I have no bloody idea confused

Treblesallround Mon 08-Oct-12 13:52:33

YABU to cringe. The correct response is to stab them.

Dillydollydaydream Mon 08-Oct-12 13:52:39

My husband said that the other day hmm
It just sounds ridiculous!

MardyBra Mon 08-Oct-12 13:52:48

Ah Chaos. Gotten was British English originally, and the Americans kept it, while we dropped it. And now it's being reintroduced.

Treblesallround Mon 08-Oct-12 13:53:11

or wince even blush

UnChartered Mon 08-Oct-12 13:53:59

i gotten it off of MN, back in the day before we had the 'net, no-one talked like that, but it's hit me big time

my bad

like that you mean? grin

MardyBra Mon 08-Oct-12 13:55:04

Wince/cringe/roll up in the foetal position and sob. All interchangeable Trebles

MrsKeithRichards Mon 08-Oct-12 13:57:59

Whoops, my bad!

FolkGhoul Mon 08-Oct-12 14:02:46

Yes, but gotten isn't being 'reintroduced' as a means of reclaiming one of our own, it's being adopted by all the kids who watch too much American TV.

DappyHays Mon 08-Oct-12 14:04:30

YANBU

MardyBra Mon 08-Oct-12 14:07:19

I agree Folk.

LesleyPumpshaft Mon 08-Oct-12 14:08:02

YANBU!

TheOneWithTheHair Mon 08-Oct-12 14:08:46

YABU

I like slang. I never use it myself but I like it when ds1 uses it. Once he stops ill know he's grown up. grin

zzzzz Mon 08-Oct-12 14:11:25

YANBU!

Echocave Mon 08-Oct-12 18:40:23

Isn't it a translation of a phrase in Spanish that means 'it's my fault' - or something? (disclaimer: I know no Spanish smile)
