Some 'young people' are having a party - as anticipated the girls/young women have started shrieking like they're in a horror film.

Can some of my peers (I'm 40) tell me whether we were like that at that age? I don't remember shrieking myself. I think I was too busy chuffing away on a fag or snogging.

No you couldn't shriek in Dr Martins and black it was uncool.

I'm a bit older than you (48) but I'm pretty sure we didn't do the shrieking. They also do it when they are reunited with a BFF they haven't seen for half an hour. Can't stand it myself. [old fart emoticon]. I blame reality TV.

I'm 47 and have never shrieked in my life <snooty>. I might have called out elegantly on occasion...

We did shrieking I'm 27 so between a teenager and 40.

My mum used to say I would regret the shrieking when I was murdered and all tge neighbors ignored it because they were so used to hearing me shriek.

It's new. As are big shows of affection between girls in public....mwah mwah BABE!!!

Irritates me but I am getting old.

I'm in my late mid twenties and we didn't bloody shriek. Some people might have done though, and I guess they were always the 'visible' ones. Perhaps the same through the generations?

Beatles shrieking fans anyone?

hiddenhome Sat 06-Oct-12 21:30:34

Only small children should shriek hmm

TiggerWearsATriteSmile Sat 06-Oct-12 21:31:51

I'm 34. We were shrieky people.
We did the hugs and kisses too. Always linked arms when walking.

If someone tried to hug me now I'd punch them.
I'm all touched out from three small children all day.

I'm 44 and my mother has told me my pals and I shrieked continuously at every opportunity. I have no recollection of thiswink

Bluestocking Sat 06-Oct-12 21:32:45

Woolytights, LOL at "mwah mwah BABE!!!" and don't forget that if you post a picture of yourself looking sultry on FB, all your friends have to "like" it and add comments like "lukin gud babe" and "u so sexxxy" and "wish i hd yr hair, wel jel".

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts Sat 06-Oct-12 21:37:13

"Gawjus!!" and then little hearts that I -cant-- do due to age

garlicbutty Sat 06-Oct-12 21:38:27

Dear lord, I'm ancient and shrieked. We were all kissy-kissy, too.

Bluestocking, YOU'RE the one posting on all my nieces' facebooks, aren't you? grin

garlicbutty Sat 06-Oct-12 21:39:05

little heart = <3

Never too old for an emoticon.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts Sat 06-Oct-12 21:39:44

no Garlic! These are proper little black hearts. I don't think MN would allow them!

Bluestocking Sat 06-Oct-12 21:43:49

angry at being outed as garlic's nieces' shrieky FB friend.
Srsly, tho, how do u do the little <3 on FB?

LynetteScavo Sat 06-Oct-12 21:44:07

We only did shrieking when friends arrived at the party.

Friend you haven't seen for half an hour arrived at party. You put out your arms, shriek and rush over to hug them. Perfectly possible in DMs.

ZombTEE Sat 06-Oct-12 21:45:08

I'm 43. We shrieked.

But I'm an American. Maybe it's an American thing...something else to blame us for.

McKayz Sat 06-Oct-12 21:46:59

I'm 26 and we did the shrieky thing. So much that if I tell my 5 and 3 year old DS's to shhh my mum reminds me of the shrieking.

Tryingtothinkofnewsnazzyname Sat 06-Oct-12 21:47:03

Yes, many things have changed, but I don't think shrieking it a new invention. They do it in Grease!

IllageVidiot Sat 06-Oct-12 21:47:53

I never shrieked but knew of shriekers..ugh hated it then, still do now. But, to be fair I'm a cranky old git that was born pre-aged!

Also the hearts on FB if you <3 in your status/post fb automatically turns it into a little black heart. Go on, try it you know you want to.

Suffolk - yes, I was a Smiths fan so definitely no shrieking from me (I'm 39). Too busy trying to be all depressed and misunderstood confused
