AIBU?

To think just because I ignore a post...

... Does not mean I don't care about child abuse, think cancer is a good thing or not give a shit about Japan killing dolphins Hmm.

I also don't think clicking a picture of some poor disfigured child is going to make them feel special (or be seen by them at all), that liking a soldier cuddling his dog means the war will end or that commenting on a photo will make heart disease a thing of the fucking past...,

Why Facebook, why did you intrude on my pure use of this as a one to one interaction by publishing on my news feed every idiotic thing people I know "like", you have singlehandedly made me realise 75% of my RL friends and family are morons .

YANBU, and you can add those stupid fucking "post some random bollocks that actually means nothing to raise awareness for cancer" statuses to your list too.

Ok a slight exaggeration, tongue in cheek perhaps?

Have you been called on ignoring this sentimental tosh?

I just speed read over the "post this as your status for an hour" bobbins.

I hooe I'm not perceived as uncaring because of it.

Also - showing me someone's chirpy "Be Strong! Life's Great! You're a Strong Woman!" poster won't necessarily cheer me up on a shit day.

But we both signed up to FB - it was a choice, not an obligation. We can both choose to walk away.

They are not real pages, marketing companies use them to record traffic figures against companies websites. They just hide the pages and get paid on the figures. I regularly say this on my status but people still like like like. The ones set up around the missing little girl are particularly sickening.

Ok let you off. It's annoying how it seems to publish your every move.

I think you can unsubscribe from the feeds of the worst offenders - I know I no longer get all the drivel posted by a couple of relatives I can't unfriend without causing offence.

But don't ask me how I did it, since Facebook changes its settings every five minutes. Something to do with hovering over someone's name or profile pic, and clicking on options that come up?

YANBU at all! It shocks me daily at how my usually very intelligent and rational friends get sucked into all this bollocks.

The problem with FB is, no matter how much I would like to give it up, it's taken over and I'd be completely out of the loop without it. I'd survive, course I would, but it's such a massive part of life now it'd be sooooooooooooo hard to be without it.

I have just put a sarky comment on my SIL's status update though as I am so sick of her totally shit and ridiculous use of text speak on FB. She's in her thirties with two kids, ffs!!!

FB is much easier to deal with when you select what statuses to receive from friends. Click on 'only important' for your news feed updates and suddenly all the dross melts away. Also block all the stuff you think is spam, by right clicking on the right hand corner of the post.

Particularly useful for removing: new age hippy shit, invitations to join games, horoscopes and click on this to prove I'm an idiot pictures.
