To people like the guy who has been arrested for April's murder are not much better than the people who commit these crimes? I've seem some truely horrific and brutal comments on Facebook about what they would like to do to him... Verging on the stuff of horror films... Why do they think it's acceptable in retaliation for an equally brutal crime? Even as a parent I would never want to behave in a way that resembled the person who committed the crime. Does that make sense?

Don't get me wrong, in order to protect my children I would kill but in the aftermath... It's premeditated murder...

How about you delete the idiots who write that crap on Facebook?

I find talk of physical punishment for anything really distasteful.

Obviously society wants protecting and people should be rehabilitated where possible.

Vengeful attacking of someone in any context is probaby not a good thing.

it's not 'their' child though is it - he OP is talking about the idiotic rantings of people on facebook - people who would grab pitchforks and burning torches and run to the nearest paediatricians house scream for blood

I suppose they are expressing their rage. I don't see it as helpful though and I too wish they wouldn't.

I still couldn't bring myself to torture him and the people posting these views...it's not their child...

It's not a friend... A friend liked a harmless post about it and the comments on the lost were hideous in both directions... For the guy and against. Concerning that people hold either view IMO.

Do you not think it's scary that the acts of someone who is obviously deranged can provoke derangement if only in words...

I must admit i do feel my rage in physical terms. It is not something i am proud about and i don't even agree it's right. I see it as a darker side of my human condition which needs to be overruled by my cerebral side. It is for this reason i would never allow myself to express what i 'feel' and would never allow myself in a position of 'power' over someone so heinous, as i don't know how i could restrain myself. It is all hypothetical of course and i like to think i would be enlightened enough to restrain myself but to be honest with myself, i really couldn't be sure.

I am also pro death penalty despite knowing it is 'wrong' based on all my education on the subject. It is an inner struggle.

I could never be pro death penalty... These people are I'll, I don't believe anyone is evil in the true meaning of the word. Not saying they can be rehabilitated but I would never want to become one of them... You can't go back.

I agree, YANBU. I've read some truly horrible things on my timeline today and thought the same.

Oh and YANBU. I do think those people are part of a faction of people getting odd pleasure out of fantasising with others about doing these things. All under the acceptable guise of retribution.

I know Jeux. I would never want it consciously, but i do feel vengeful. This is why i feel victims and families should not be able to influence sentancing.

I would delete any one of my FB friends who would post such rubbish.

With the result that luckily none of my current fb friends would do it.
