AIBU?

to be annoyed at M&S food shops changing their shelves round every other day?

You go down the chees aisle to find cheese, although it's not cheese anymore. Now it's ready meals. And where the ready meals used to be, now is the fruit juices and desserts.

How much time do they spend doing this??! I go in about once a week and spend time walking in circles just trying to find stuff that has moved since my last visit. It's like musical chairs - is everyone else's local M&S like this or do they just do it here for their own amusement?

They certainly do it in York. I believe it's to make you spend more - you see more of the shop. What it actually does is annoy you so much you spend less because you just want to get the heck out of there........

YANBU

Drives me insane. I just want to go in get the food and leave. Not go on a treasure hunt.

Plus my local one has stopped stocking those Coquille St Jacques and they were yummy :(

YANBU! There are 2 in Glasgow city centre and they both seem to do it weekly, it's so annoying!

YABU.

Shops will do whatever they need to do to get customers to spend more. As Northern says, it may be offputting to begin with but there will be a reason why they're moving stuff round.

Shops (even M&S) are there to make as much profit as they can, not to provide a public service. Even good customer service is just something they do to make people like them and spend more.

But I don't spend more - it drives me nuts and often I leave without finding what I went in looking for!

They have done it for decades though, it's obviously a store policy much loved and cherished as a tradition.

YANBU!

I would love to know if this really does work for them as a marketing ploy, because I'm the same as you. If stuff isn't where it's supposed to be I'm more likely to forget things, or just end up pissed off and only buying the essentials.

Yanbu - drives me nuts. After my local tesco had a refit they changed the order of the aisles and I couldn't find anything.

I came home in a strop and signed up for their delivery saver thing with unlimited deliveries for the next 6 months.

yanbu
other supermarkets do this too.
really annoying, especially with specialist stuff like free-from.

I'm with Outraged. If I can't find it in its "usual" place I either forget & move on to the next item or give up in frustration. And have others noticed its always the children's food that's moved!

Oh I know, it's like when the crops fail again or the floods come and you just can't eek out the supplies another winter and have to sell a child.
Oh no it's not! Grin

Slap me OP, but whenever I find myself getting irritated by queues or stuff moving, I think 'First World problem' and thank my lucky stars

You might not spend more that day, no. But they will be moving things in a way that will make more people spend more over the months ahead.

"Same old, same old" will give people a comforting feeling but there won't be anything new to seduce them over the weeks ahead. They'll be getting ready to introduce more Christmas goodies and tempting offers for one thing.

Of course it's a first world problem, never said it was anything else - just asked if other people found it annoying too. Turns out that most do.

M&S have always done this throughout the store. It's done to make us part with more money, the idea being you buy something you wouldn't ordinarily buy from where you auto piloted to as well as what you originally went in for.

And the Silverburn, now I think about it, Euphemia.

My mum won't go in the Sauchiehall St one now, shame. I don't notice it so much in Asda etc either. John Lewis is pretty fixed.

Yes it's annoying.

They've always run out of the very thing you wanted. Or even worse don't do it any more, only do it at the larger branches. Only the larger branches have always sold out. Infuriating.

I only ever buy Salmon En Croute from M&S (have an obsession with how lovely it is) and if I couldn't find my way straight to the salmon I'd be dangerous. I do bloody hate shop change-arounds - I don't want to potter my way round; I want to be in and out again like a speeding bullet.
