I feel uncomfortable now but they were being really horrible about ginger babies and I have a lovely one who is gorgeous and im missing her loads today.
They tried to make light of it but I said that its attitudes like that that mean that red headed children are still bullied at school.
There is an atmosphere now in the office so I thought i'd tell you and you can all come and wait for them outside with banners and eggs Sad

What horrible people! So sorry you had to hear their inane and hurtful comments but well done for sticking up for beautiful red-headed babies!

Where are you? I will buy some eggs especially.

YANBU, well done for saying something.

YANBU

I love ginger hair. As a child I would have happily sold my brother into slavery in exchange for his flame red hair. Still would actually

YAdefinitelyNBU. I just don't get this thing that some people seem to have about ginger hair. As well as being hugely hurtful, it's just totally pointless. You are absolutely right to call them on it.

I initally thought your post said 'to get stroppy with work colleagues being vile ginger children'. Thought maybe you worked with gifted children.

They were being outrageously rude if they were slagging off ginger children knowing that you have one yourself. I'd have slapped their chops. Metaphorically if HR were in sight, and literally if I thought I'd get away with it. Ok not really, but I would tell them to @%& the $£%% up or I'd %$%^ their %£$%'s'

Good for you to stand up for us gingers! One of the things that made me very cats-bum face when pregnant was 'jokes' from people about me possibly passing the 'affliction' on. Angry

Thanks I feel more confident now. They have apologised but I know it was a token gesture.Bloody bastards. I told them they would never say that about someones skin colour. My baby is stunning too I feel so defensive.

The other day someone was enthusiastically stating how great Girls-Only education is because Boys are such turnip brains they hold girls back & lower the overall standards and results.

She KNOWS I have 3 sons. Hmm

Did they know your daughter is red haired?! Bloody bastards either way, but especially so if they knew.

I have a beautiful red haired nephew and niece and they're bloody gorgeous. I was actually hoping DS may inherit it from his DGF however he's turned out blonde. Oh well, there's always the next one!

What is wrong with some people that they think this is OK? I have had comments about DS 'maybe turning a bit ginger' - he's not but I just say "really? Do you think? That would be lovely!" how is it any different to racism? It's blatant ignorance most of the time.

If I were you I think I'd just be completely upfront. "I find your comments ignorant and offensive" - good luck dealing with these morons OP!

if it makes you feel better when i was at school it was water off a ducks bath to me, not bothered at all. as an adult it pisses me off no end!

I don't know what the hell the issue is. I'm pregnant with DC2 and the amount of times I've been asked "do you think this one will be ginger as well?"

On the plus side DD gets told how beautiful her hair is everywhere we go. It's dark red and ringleted. It is beautiful. I bet when she gets to 14 she'll be angling to dye it brown though Sad

YANBU, or stroppy.

Well done for saying what you did.

Report
Lilicat1013 · 04/10/2012 12:42

Red hair is beautiful, especially on children I would love to have red hair (instead I dye it red). I don't understand the weird attitudes to it. I said to a woman who had a baby with red hair how beautiful her little boy's hair was, so pulled a face and said they were hoping it would change colour as he got older Sad

I would love to join you throwing eggs at the idiots you work with.
