DS's school due to go on outdoor walk today
But apparently it's been cancelled because of the weather forecast

It is the most beautiful day
they are not going to get a better Autumn day

Its the "cancellation culture" in this country. Demonstrates some people's power by prematurely cancelling things, and demonstrates their "committment to health and safety" rather than their committment to actually do things...

It's probably because a parent has chosen not to give permission or failed to return the permission slip, and they can't adequately look after and educate that child at school when the rest of them are out.

It's the fact that they have blamed it on the weather

Schools are very risk averse these days. Incidents like this

river walking trip

play on their minds.

Your school sound a bit pathetic, are you sure its the real reason. Maybe they've got someone in charge who is driven by the weather forecast (SIL I'm looking at you).

DD2 is out on a trip today that involves walking, well to the tube and this is a school which frets about everything in my opinion. Can't you call them and ask if its still cancelled and if so why.

If they have blamed it on the weather when you can clearly see that there's nothing wrong with the weather, then that's even more reason to believe that it's because of another parent.

They can't say that though, they have to treat it confidentially if a parent has refused permission or forgotten to return a slip otherwise it could cause all sorts of problems.

Or, there's always the chance that the LA didn't accept that their risk assessment was good enough.

it's an independent school, no permission slips needed.
They go to this area all the time apparently, It's just at the back of the school

I think I might just take DS after school anyway

At the back of the school ???

Have a look at this.

health and safety myth busting

You could always refer it there.

PS - and re the no permission slips etc, I'd very much like to see their counsel's line of argument in the event of an incident where they (or a member of staff) were prosecuted.

If they've got a school website, have a look on it and see if they've got a school outings or health and safety policy.
