AIBU?

To be sick to the back teeth with those fecking phone calls from insurance companies/financial companies/ppi companies every day!

I am on leave this week and so far i have had at least 4 phone calls a day from these companies!
Where the heck do they get my number from?
I dont give it out, i dont have any connection with them, why are they bugging me?

I now just put the phone down when they drone on and tell me who they are and ask how i am today....unreasonable, but i want them to leave me alone.

Thinking of getting home phone disconnected.

How can i stop these calls?

They also call mobiles OP Angry

I get at least 15 calls a day at work too and don't care what anyone says on here, I tell them to piss off Grin

As for your home phone, I went on the internet and there is a free service where these can be stopped for you. I'm sure someone will be along in a mo to tell the exact website as I'm menopausal I've forgotten.

I don't think there is a way, but at 41 weeks pregnant I can empathise. By the time I have extracted myself off the sofa/ out of the shower tray I am cleaning/ woken up from a nap/ got up from emptying the washing machine, etc. to be met with either background call centre noise or inane blether I am not the least bit interested in, I am in no mood to be civil. Some Indian called 'Daniel' had the cheek to phone me back yesterday after I put the phone down (to attend to yet another poo incident from dd).

I get loads of texts (no landline) always about PPI and the thousands of ££ I will save, despite the fact I've only lived in this country for 5 years and have had virtually no loans...

I also wonder where they get my number from. I suppose it sold by another company I gave it to.

They do call as well, but when I answer they hang up, presumably because they are doing that multi-dialer thing. Sooooo annoying.

Telephone preference service. You can unsubscribe there

The telephone preference service will stop sales calls, but not 'market research' or international pesterers.

I'm being plagued by phonecalls from 'Microsoft Operating Systems' at the moment. It's doing my nut. I've had to unplug the phone they're ringing so much.

My landline is permanently unplugged unless I actually need to call anyone. Everyone I know in RL rings my mobile. They are such annoying feckers!

I told "MS engineering" to fuck the fuck off only a couple of days ago. Normally I just hang up, but I was on tender hooks that one of the DDs would want fetching from school neither had been well and DD1 had a sodding controlled assessment.

I was not in the moodAngry

It takes roughly two weeks for the calls to stop after you've registered OP, in the meantime just keep swearing at them Grin

Sorry but I lost it not 10 minutes ago with one such lying bastard. I am usually polite but this week has been beyond shit and this twat was lying through his arse. Scammers rang my mum's house 3 times on Monday whilst we were meeting with the undertaker planning my dad's funeral. My mum has never even owned a computer.

Telephone preference service doesnt work on calls that come from outside UK. Most of these places now use a random number generator, and if the call is answered once they then sort it as being an active number.

Sorry!

I do feel your pain, I was very rude to one of them about 2 weeks ago who would not get off the line. I was waiting for an important call, said this said I was going to hang up, to which he said he'd just call back. . .

We've had a few of these at work - they come through on the 'Bat Phone', the special phone used only by ambulance control to warn us if something's coming in we need to be ready and waiting for (work in A&E if you hadn't guessed). The registrar lost it last time, pressed the button to speak to a 'sales rep' and tore them a new one, told them he'd personally make sure the company was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law etc. No doubt it'll have had no effect.

I had someone call yesterday, who then tried to insist I justify why I am not interested. He got a very short "I repeat, I am not interested, goodbye" and then I hung up. He nearly got "I am current heavily pregnant and trying to clean cat shit off a carpet, so no I don't want to talk to you, fuck off."

'Good afternoon MrsVon, how are you today? How's the weather in Vontown today? all it is is'......................

Fuck off. If nothing else, the expression 'all it is is' deserves eternal damnation.

I feel I have to answer the fuckers too as some come up as Private Number (could be ds's school) and some are random 0845 (work switchboard) I couldn't leave either to ring out.

Ooh, ooh - the worst are the ones who have been 'trained in the art of open questioning' and think they're so clever when they say 'Hello Mrs Von - how would you like to save £100 today?'

Bastards Angry

Oh yes, plagued by them on my mobile at the moment but I just don't answer if I don't recognise the number. Texts too.

The ones that really really bug me are when you pick up the phone and there is a pause before the caller actually connects. You're callying, you bloody well wait for me to answer not the other way round. Angry

We keep getting them ringing trying to sell loft insulation. We live in a flat, and no matter how often I tell them I do not have a fucking loft, they still call.

I keep getting pestered by charities I used to donate to. Have stopped temporarily due to being on mat leave with no pay. Anyway, I hate the whole "have we done something to upset you?" call. Telling me the benefits of donating to that charity. Yes, I know, that's why I donated before. And I would have done so again when I went back to work except now you're fannying about wasting money ringing me and trying to guilt me into £2 a week or whatever. Which I do not have.

Can't bring myself to tell a charity caller to fuck off, or hang up, though.

I think comparison websites have a lot to answer for. We registered with the TPS when we moved in 10 years ago. It worked brilliantly. Then I went on a couple of those sites for energy and car insurance and lo and behold the calls started coming thick and fast. I am very rude with them now, I am past caring. It's tantamount to stalking, prank calls etc. utterly uncalled for.

You should answer though, and tell them in no uncertain terms that you are with the TPS and ex directory and ask them how they got the number. Seems to floor them asking them that directly. Then tell them to take the number off their database and never call again.

I always put a fake number in when online forms want insist on having my telephone number. Very few sites recognised that 01234567890 is not a real number...
