... ahem, accidentally had sex earlier today at 4pm? Missed the last smear test and didn't want to miss this one. Don't want to embarrass myself. Would they know?

I have no idea whether you are being unreasonable or not, but how can you accidentally have sex? Did you slip and land on your partner's erect penis?

startwig1982 Tue 02-Oct-12 19:19:49

grin at mardy

fuckadoodlepoopoo Tue 02-Oct-12 19:20:17

Did you use a condom?

AuntyDepressants Tue 02-Oct-12 19:21:18

Sorry, when I mean accidentally I mean that I forgot about the imminent smear test.

AuntyDepressants Tue 02-Oct-12 19:21:43

Fuck, no.

thebody Tue 02-Oct-12 19:22:04

U naughty mare... No just go, after putting the KY jelly in the speculum they won't tell the difference iucwim...

ToothGah Tue 02-Oct-12 19:22:20

Ewwww. Remember reading the same on an old eBay forum. The woman was quite indignant when the nurse berated her for turning up for a smear having had sex that morning.

Squeegle Tue 02-Oct-12 19:22:34

Surely you'll be bathing somewhere along the line? How will they know? Tell us more about the accidental sex- that's more compelling!

ToothGah Tue 02-Oct-12 19:22:54

Eh? Why did eBay turn into a link then?

chipsandmushypeas Tue 02-Oct-12 19:23:30

Apparently results may come back inconclusive or something so if you go, you should tell them as it may interfere with results.

Hopeforever Tue 02-Oct-12 19:23:33

This is a boasting thread.

You get to have sex at 4pm while the rest of us are working or controlling children grin

CwtchesAndCuddles Tue 02-Oct-12 19:24:55

It can effect the reading of the smear test and makes it much more likely you will be recalled. Easier just to re arrange the appointment than risk a scare!

MummysHappyPills Tue 02-Oct-12 19:25:19

I took a swab from a woman at a gum clinic and they look at it under the microscope straight away too see if there are any obvious bugs there, before sending it off for proper testing. And lo and behold, there were some wee sperm! T'was quite fascinating! grin

vodkaanddietirnbru Tue 02-Oct-12 19:25:27

found this info:

The best time to have a smear test is in the middle of
your menstrual cycle. It can be done at other times,
although it is best to avoid the time when you are having
your period. *Chemicals can also affect the test, so if you
use a spermicide, a barrier method of contraception or a
lubricant jelly, you should avoid sex for 24 hours before
the test*

monkeysbignuts Tue 02-Oct-12 19:26:10

I had to have an internal (bleeding during pregnancy) after having sex about 12 hours before. I felt very embarrassed but I don't think they noticed blush

monkeysbignuts Tue 02-Oct-12 20:05:59

haha!!! love it

BelieveInPink Tue 02-Oct-12 20:07:43

How, after many smear tests, did I not know you're supposed to not have sex 24 hours before?

Not that it matters, all you afternoon sex having bastards. grin

Sparklingbrook Tue 02-Oct-12 20:11:44

Sex at 4pm in the afternoon? shock

DknyQueen Tue 02-Oct-12 20:13:53

Happened to me! I had sex at 1 o'clock and smear sometime before 3 o'clock!
I was a bit blush when the doctor said "it all looks HEALTHY" down there with a lot of emphasis!!!
Oh and the result was inconclusive!

Hassled Tue 02-Oct-12 20:14:07

I had absolutely no idea this was a thing, and I've had about 6 million smear tests. When do they tell you? I can't have been paying attention.

AngryFeet Tue 02-Oct-12 20:14:38

I never knew you weren't supposed to have sex before! Sure I have DTD the night before. Never seen anything on the appt letter about abstaining though...

Sallyingforth Tue 02-Oct-12 20:21:32

That reminded me of the Tony Hancock blood donor sketch.
"It might be just a smear to you, but it's life or death to some poor sperm!"
