Friend has posted on FB:

'Dear Jim
Can you fix it for me to go out with a girl from my class?
Love Jeremy Forrest, Aged 30'

Said friend is a police officer :(

I'm horrified. De-friended him.

Great that we still live in a society where jokes cn be made about rape and child abuse. Fucking awful.

As bad - 5 people up to when I deleted him 'liked' it, and one said it was 'fucking hilarious mate! :-D'

Bit public, isn't it?

I did this 100 years ago and it worked but it was word of mouth and nothing else. The Chinese whispers worked that time.

Would have Defriended him too. do people think they are being clever or something by posting stuff like this?

that's not quite what it's about RuleBritannia!

definitely a de-friending offense OP!

People always make jokes about horrific things, it is a way of minimising it.

ffs why do people think its funny to make a joke out of pedophiles??
I would have deleted too its so in bad taste

Personally I think its funny, but wouldn't put it on my Facebook.

I've no idea - so depressing. Not what I expected from this person at all, especially in their position. Wow.

Suspect if I'd have commented I've have got a ton of comments about being uptight or not able to take a joke. :(

I think that is very unprofessional...if his superiors find out I doubt they would find it funny.

Its not funny and I don't understand how people would find it remotely funny either. Children were rapped and abused its not funny

"Personally I think its funny,"

I must have had a sense of humour bypass then. I don't find "jokes" in such bad taste the least bit amusing.

I'd report him.

halloweeneyqueeney · 02/10/2012 18:03

I'ld possibly do a screen shot and sent it to his work too!

crackcrackcrak · 02/10/2012 18:03

I'm not saying its remotely ok but it's a common reaction - especially with blokes. Just had a text from v close male friend asking if its too soon to make jokes about the 5 year old missing in Wales? Obviously my reply was 'ffs!!!!!!'

My ex army exp will
Argue until he's blue in the face that humour is the way men deal with things. I certainly don't agree it's acceptable bit it is common Sad

If he is a policeman I'd report him too. Joking about abuse of children, how hilarious

Report
Smeghead · 02/10/2012 18:07

I'd report him.

Errr....who to? Do you mean to his employers?! OK so it is bad taste, but reporting him is a bit OTT.

Report
whois · 02/10/2012 18:07

I think it's quite funny

Report
londonone · 02/10/2012 18:09

Oh yes someone has a different sense of humour to you, best report them to their employers.

Report
bigkidsdidit · 02/10/2012 18:09

Smeg police are meant (quite rightly) to be very careful what they put on FB etc

What if this officer were assigned to the Megan Stammers case?

SoupDragon · 02/10/2012 18:09

Report him? Send the screenshot to his superiors?
Really. Talk about a vindictive over reaction. Sheesh.

FFS no one will work in public services if they can't use black humour occasionally without fear of being reported by some sanctimonious 'friend'

I don't think you can call this case "child abuse". Yes, he abused his position. Yes, it was wrong, but she was 15, not 5.

I also think it's quite funny - it's highlighting how pathetic it is that a 30 year old man wanted a relationship with a 15 year old. The joke's on him, not her.

Wouldn't post it on fb though!

I dont think it is funny at all - teh defense of "humour" is a great silencer. I would report him to his superiors - not acceptable for a person with his position and power to make light of what is still ongoing investigations. he sounds a bit of a muppet tbh if he hasnt considered all that before posting it.

I have a few friends who are police officers. They do tend to have a fairly sick sense of humour. But then they have to cope with the threat of being shot at, and a million other horrific things that most people couldn't cope with. I don't think it's fair to expect police to deal with everything that they have to deal with on a normal day at work and then to expect them to not have a few odd coping strategies.

Yabu.

he's a POLICE OFFICER! if your child is god forbid ever abused he might be the person you go to! If you are raped he might be the one taking your statement!
