AIBU?

To think the craze for all things 'vintage' has finally gone too far...

grabbed bottle of floor cleaner at tesco tonight. Had a picture of a floor on it, didn't look too closely... Just unpacked my shopping to find I've bought 'FLASH -Vintage Edition' all-purpose cleaner.

I suppose I should have noticed the floor in picture was a circa-1950's black & White lino, being cleaned by a woman in a dress and pumps -- looking like a cross between a Mad Men character and the cartoon of Sabrina from the titles to the old "Bewitched" series.

So what could possibly be 'vintage' about a floor cleaner? Maybe it's full of good old fashioned chemicals which are now banned, but brought back for this 'special edition'? Oh goody!

I think it's an anniversary edition or something. Don't forget to put on your fifties style housecoat when you next clean the floors and your hair in curlers Grin

Does it say 'with added asbestos!' on it?

How strange!

It is a load of old shit innit? The worst thing about 'vintage' is stuff styled to look it. The only vintage that counts is actual vintage - the fake stuff sucks.

Bloody hell YANBU. That's absurd. Unless, of course the bottle came with your very own 1950s housewife to actually do the cleaning for you...

Vintage Flash is just stoopid.

I confess to finding the soft teal of the vintage esque Heinz baked beans far more appealing than its modern compatriot....

Good point, McPants. It's honestly never occurred to me to smell the stuff, as someone else washes the floors! All scent gone by time I get home from work :-). So I buy whatever is cheap :-0

the best thing for baths and sinks is the cheapest cream cleaner you can buy - less than 30p and WORKS.

Being vintage myself, the only floor cleaners I remember were Ajax or soapy stuff. I have a vague recollection of home-made "mixtures" which probably included bicarb of soda and vinegar. But then I was as disinterested in domesticity as a child as I am now.

This whole vintage nonsense does get on my wick. Although I was quite amused when someone in Brighton assured me that "you've got a really vintage dog there".

Vintage would be cleaning with what they had in days gone by. Like soda crystals etc....

Fancy doing your washing the vintage way?! Wink

I don't like the pretend vintage stuff in shops. They are not antiques!

I clean with star drops and white vinegar anyway. chokes on halo

PS. Ajax was great. You did have to rinse the bath out properly after using it though or it was a bit abrasive on the bottom when you sat down.
