AIBU?

In wishing that JKRowling would shut the fuck about her new novel?

For days now the media has been awash with interviews about her new 'adult' book. Every time I turn on the radio or the tv, there she is, giving another bloody interview. She has said she thought about publishing it under a pseudonym but decided to go public. You know what JKR, anonymous would have been a good idea.

I mean, the Harry Potter books are a good yarn but hardly great literature so I am not exactly champing at the bit to get my teeth into her 'adult' offering.

And apparently it contains swearing Shock.

She has called her fictional middle class village with the adjacent sink estate Pagford. Hmm

I also heard her say that she hasn't ruled out more Harry Potter. Well there's a surprise.

If the media invite her to do interviews why shouldn't she?
Of course there's going to be huge interest in her new novel as it is such a depature from the HP series.

Therefore YABU

I look forward to reading your critique Shag

Oh I know IABU but really, she has been everywhere like a rash these last few days.

Salman Rushdie's Autobiog was previewed on R4 and there have been a couple of interviews with him and it made me order the book.

JKR just makes me want to stamp my feet. (And zap her with my wand).

i tried to read the hp books and failed miserably... with all them made-up words. the only thing harder than them blumin books are the dinosaur books, that are impossible to pronounce and make me sound like i have a reading age of a four year old!

Humpf! [flounces off to read some jack reacher and fantasise!}

Has she? Can't say as I'd noticed Grin

I knew she had wrote a new book but haven't heard any of the interviews.

I must spend too long tuned in to R4. But she has been on the tv several times as well.

Maybe she has put a spell on me and is living in my head.

yy I agree with you.

In fact Anne Fine said much the same thing on the radio earlier today. She was distinctly Hmm about all the secrecy and how bookshops have all had the books delivered but aren't allowed to open the sealed boxes until magic o' clock tomorrow or somesuch nonsense. I think her exact words were 'it may put people's backs up.'

Well my back is up and yikes - something really terrifying is about to happen but oh, what's this, everything's gone black and lo, I have woken up in the hospital wing..........

(sorry. didn't know how to extricate myself from that dire situation so I resorted to cliche and copout).

There's always a little group of celebs traipsing around, appearing on all the same programmes, flogging their new books.
At the moment it is JK Rowling, Caitlin Moran, Stephen K Amos and John Major. Give it another few days and the media will move on to the next set of writers being churned out by the publishes PR departments.

I heard her say she is very unlikely to make another HP book as she feels she has taken it as far as she can.

Se had no money whatsoever and she wrote these books, where millions of people have read them - that's a huge achievement!

This is her first book since HP and I don't think it is unreasonable she gets media attention - she is a good influence unlike many celebs these days.

Also in all her interviews (from what I have heard) she has made clear these books are not for children - which is a good thing because I'm sure some parents would let their children buy the book on iPad/kindle etc if they mention author Jk Rowling.

Plus Emma Thompson did loads on her book incl dressing up

Jk never dressed up in a wizards robe!

Btw I think YABU but I do like Jk Rowling, she seems very down to earth and i like her books!

yabu, I haven't even noticed any interviews with her! (not watched much tv in last few days though tbf) and I would be interested in hearing about the book and probably will read it.. a lot of people will be interested thats why they are putting her on, as she is popular - so whats wrong with that?

Why the bitchiness? She's done amazingly well. She gave a really good interview tonight - she's clearly very thoughtful and concerned about moral issues. That was evident in the Harry Potter books, though.

Did you expect her to bring out her first adult book without any kind of attention?

As for Salman Rushdie, well now HE makes me yawn. All that crying about having to live a hard life ever since he slagged off a major religion - it's so unfair, waaaaaaaaaaaaah. I'm amazed you're critical of her and saying you want to read his new book.

Why the bitchiness? Here's why...
Her self-important attitude with her blanket bam on those who have read the book reviewing it before it goes to press or saying anything about it and her 'carefully' controlled interviews and readings of the book whilst sneering at the 'middle classes' for their 'self-important' behaviour. She preaches from her ivory tower about classes whilst using strict control on how her book is marketed.

Oh the irony!
