Depends are they things she REALLY wants? Are they appropriate things? And does she like your alternatives?

and whether the things she really wants are awful, in your view

Totally depends what it is, need more info

Need a bit more info than that.

If what she wants is likely to break as soon as she looks at it, then no not unreasonable.
Likewise if it's a bit too "old" for her.

From experience I'd get her what she wants, if its within bugdet.

I didn't listen to my 5 yr old last year and got her something I thought she'd really like. Its barely been played with.

I learned my lesson the hard way, she's getting her choice this year.

Is this about clothes?
For my 4 year old, I am happy to buy her what she asks for within reason (I mean, not just if she asks for something when we pass a shop but if we are looking to buy clothes and she chooses a particular thing).

If something isn't too expensive and I don't hate it and it's suitable for everyday wear, then it's fine by me.
She wasn't picky about what she wore until she was very nearly 4 so I figure I got a fair bit of dressing her up and most of what she likes, I like too.
Also, did you ask her what she'd like and she suggested something or did she just request something and you'd rather buy a different thing? I think that makes a difference too. But, overall, if it's just a question of what you think is nice vs. what she wants and there are no issues (unsuitability/too expensive) with what she wants, get her what she wants!

So, short answer, I think you are best buying what she likes and, while it's not unreasonable to want to get her something "nice" it is unreasonable to think that just 'cause you think it's nice, she will too!

Depends on what it is she wants and what it is you want to get her.

At four I let dd have some input into what certain things to a certain degree.

As its a toy I would go for her choice, personally.

With something as simple as what you've just said just get what she wants!

I thought she'd asked for something shite like a pet rock and you wanted to get her a doll...

Yep, unless your objections are to do with practical or financial matters, I'd go with what she has asked for!
