Not to want to see a woman's bum in my local paper?

Flicking through the "what's on" section of my local free paper, place where they usually advertise pantomimes, car boots etc and there is a delightful half page advert for a dubious sounding strip club and bar with the headine "5 new girls this weekend, come and see the big girls play" accompanied by a large photo of a bum (admittedly with a slither of g string on it) and dollar notes shoved in it.

Am I BU to expect to a read a local paper without such a blatantly sexist, derogatory picture? Should I complain as its really incensed me. I have 2 very very young daughters but I don't want them to see adverts like that as the norm. Should I write to the letters page (and accept it probably won't get printed) or email the editorial team direct?

YANBU - free papers posted through your door should not include the imagery you describe. If you had paid for the paper and brought it home, that would be different.

You can see women advertising M&S in their underwear throughout most magazines and along most highstreets.

Also I imagine a paper like that takes what advertisement it can get, and its been printed now so unless there are 5 new girls next week, which could happen its not going to change anything.

I can cope with a photo of a bum and would have no issue at all with a photo of a bum advertising, say, greater awareness of bowel cancer but it's the blatant message it is sending out (aided by the notes stuffed in her pants) that women are commodities. Yes I know sex sells but do I need to be reminded in a local paper which I usually read to check out what family friendly events are on around town.

Email the advertising dept and explain why you thought the pic wasn't appropriate. CC the circulation manager and say you don't want the paper delivered anymore. It's not just a bum, its the connotations that go with it. The strip club wouldn't be allowed to post a leaflet through your door, so how can they advertise within a freebie?

I'm not offended by a photo of a bum per se or my daughter seeing said bottom but I object to what is essentially advertising for prostitution in any paper, free or otherwise. I don't think this is about being prudish, rather it's about the sexualization and exploitation of women as being so acceptable and normal that a free paper sees nothing wrong with advertising it.
