The amount of times I am in a public bathroom and women come out of the cubicle, look at themselves in the mirror, touch their hair, and then walk out without washing their hands is ridiculous. At least a quarter. No exaggeration.

Is it just where I live? Does it happen where you are?

There is nothing, NOTHING you could do in a cubicle that does not require hand washing afterwards.

I am seriously tempted every time to chase the woman out and publicly shout 'Ew, please wash your hands. That is so gross' to humiliate them into washing in future. OK, yes that would be BU but so tempting.

I wash my hands! I confess, I often dry my hands in my jeans though. I've got so into the habit of not using hand dryers (dd is petrified of them) that I do it even when alone!

I have occasionally had the misfortune to visit public conveniences where using the hand washing facilities would likely increase the number of germs on my hands, rather than reduce them. Then, and only then would I not wash my hands. Naice places like John Lewis toilets etc, I would always wash.

Totally agree. And wash them properly with soap for 15 seconds and make the kids and everybody else (especially medical staff) wash their hands as well.

We seem to have forgotten a lot about basic hygiene as observed by our grandparents and great-grandparents.

Hmm, yes I do agree YANBU although I confess I used to be one of those disgusting non-hand washers. Admittedly only when I was in the loo for a non-productive reason (adjusting pants or tights for example).

Then it dawned that even without 'doing' anything I had touched the handle of a door that some revolting poo-touching, bogey wiping miscreant may have touched and I since scrub my hands every time.

Still wipe them on jeans though. Filthy.

I always wash. I have a new test for DH as well. When we go to a hotel he always goes to the loo, then comes out, I go in and lo and behold, the soap is still wrapped. Dirty boy.

I have no idea what other people do and I'm surprised that people have the time or inclination to examine other peoples habits!

YANBU. My friend never washes hers.
It is grim when she visits as you can hear everything in our downstairs loo including the taps running. Unfortunately it never happens when she uses it and I can't help but look at her dry hands and wince.
Especially when I get a big hug straight after.... Bleaughh

What can you say though. Some people agree with the idea but in their heads it just doesn't apply to them.

YADNBU, I hate this, I often wish I could whip a mega phone out of my bag to point the dirty beggars out. It is quite surprising who does and doesn't wash hands looks are deceiving on the hand washing front

I wash my hands properly every time (being a carer im mad about infection control) takes about 30-40 seconds. It pisses me off though because you're then touching a manky door handle or something so it doesn't really matter does it.

Who bites their nails? Don't if you're so bothered about hand washing....

Vile though it is I don't remember my parents washing their hands after using the loo.
And what was worse, we had a separate loo and bathroom so washing hands meant transporting germs anyway!

But then those were the days of the once-a-week bath whether you needed it or not!

Perhaps they have hand gel in their handbag? I just scrub mine under the tap and use gel, because my skin reacts to so many brands of soap.
