AIBU?

to move my 9mth old babies cot into the bathroom during sleep training

I have just started back at work, and my 9mnth old is still not sleeping through. We have started controlled crying but it wakes her sister in the adjoining room.

I am getting a bit desperate. AIBU to move her into the bathroom for a few nights while we go through the controlled crying journey (battle...)

My husband seems to think its child cruelty.... I just think its practical solution for everyone to get more sleep in the long run.

How cold is it?

Redknickerswillstoptrains · 24/09/2012 17:14

Would you want to sleep in a bathroom,I don't think I would.

elcap · 24/09/2012 17:15

Its not cold. We have heating in there I can put on. Its not ideal but having the entire house awake at 3am isn't either.

I wouldn't, don't think the damp of a bathroom would be good for her chest.

What a strange idea! If controlled crying doesn't work for your household set up, try something different.

Or put her in the garden?

Floralnomad · 24/09/2012 17:19

Give it a few nights and your other DD will get used to it . I don't think you should put her in the bathroom.

GOLDdebka · 24/09/2012 17:19

My children have both slept in the bathroom from time to time. Also the lobby. I don't think YABU.

GreenPetal94 · 24/09/2012 17:20

Seems like a good practical solution to me. Until you need a bath of course.

If he is going to wake your daughter then its a good idea.

charlottehere · 24/09/2012 17:20

Yes just bung her in the bath, she'll be fine. Wink

roundtable · 24/09/2012 17:21

No, no, no! Think of the poo spores.

Ugh.

JellyMould · 24/09/2012 17:22

Seems logical to me.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 24/09/2012 17:24

Won't she be woken up by people going to the loo in the night?

elcap · 24/09/2012 17:26

@ roundtable the loo seat will be down so no poo spores!

Have you ever sung in the shower? Surely the acoustics in a bathroom mean her crying is going to wake the street never mind the household!

Weasleyismyking · 24/09/2012 17:41

The noise in a tiled room will be so much worse than any other in the house. My DS sounded so loud when i first put him in his bedroom which has metal blinds, wooden floor and painted walls (instead of wallpaper).

Weasleyismyking · 24/09/2012 17:42

cross post with SixFeetUnder!

GoldShip · 24/09/2012 19:25

YABU.

RubyFakeNails · 24/09/2012 19:30

YANBU when dd1 and ds were younger the bathroom was the only other room so I did something similar. It was also their playroom and naughty spot at times.

Their chests are and were fine.

MrsLionHeart · 24/09/2012 19:39

You must have a huge bathroom! Mine would never fit a cot. For hygiene purposes I would not put her in the bathroom.

Can you perhaps adjust bedtime so the crying takes place when your older child is in deep sleep mode?

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 24/09/2012 19:41

I'd be scared of poo particles. Sad

And I think the acoustics might be a point too..

horsebiscuit · 24/09/2012 19:43

Are there other options? At the moment I am sleeping in the front room while DD2 sleeps (or not) in my bedroom, while I do sleep training. Again, so as not to wake DD1.
It's not working BTW!!!

Wouldn't it just confuse her? Waking up in a strange room is likely to bring on more crying. Also, when you move her back to her bedroom that'll be different again. I wouldn't do it myself but then our bathroom is the coldest and most echo-y room in the house so it really wouldn't work for me.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 24/09/2012 19:51

Could your other dc sleep in with you for a few days ?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 24/09/2012 19:54

Or dd1 could have ur bed and you and ur dh sleep on sofa bed/air bed for a week?
