My ex thought that the phrase "let sleeping dogs lie" meant you shouldn't wake dogs up! The conversation went;

Me;"Put the dog out"

Him; "She's asleep"

Me; "so??"

Him; "you shouldn't wake them up"

Me; "since the fuck when?"

Him" that saying about not waking dogs up"

Me "What the... You mean let sleeping dogs lie?"

Him "yeah!l

Me; "you're a twat"

My DH had a moment of clarity a few weeks ago when he learned that 'catarrh' (as in snotty nose) is not, in fact, pronounced or spelled guitar ShockGrin

Pmsl at sleeping dogs lie, your way does make sense!

Was it my thread about letting dd sleep in her birthday suit that did it? Did you imagine her going to bed dressed as a fairy or a gruffalo? :o

Haha.

Not quite the same but I recently had a moment of clarity about 'stir-fry' - you stir it while it fries! I've no idea why it had only seemed like a word rather than a meaning. For nearly 40 years.

And bluebell. Ohhhhhhh it's a blue bell. I seeeeeee.

I managed to get to the ripe old age of 35 before I realised Rice Crispies are made of actual rice Blush

I know someone who only realised the double meaning of
"Only Smarties have the answer" in their thirties (not me - although I was about 17 when the penny dropped)!

LOl at all of those....especially the birthday suit, guitar and rice krispies!! Mines not about a saying as such.....but when I was first prescribed tablets, I had to ask my dad how i took one tablet 3 times a day (theres me thinking it meant I had to take the same tablet 3 times a day.....twat or what Grin)

DH never realised that The Count on Sesame Street was a double meaning- i.e. He's Count Dracula and he counts.

I posted this on here a while back.

I only realised what a flamin' yon was a few years ago. Could never understand why the waiter didn't serve it on fire Hmm

Sps, I thought the same about Billericay Blush

It was ages before I realised that 'come what may' had nothing to do with thr month.
