to think that staying in the UK is NOT a holiday

I'm sick of people patronising me. Next week I'm going to Peppa Pig World (and a car museum and assorted rubbishy British crappy places) for my daughters 2nd birthday and my 30th. Friends who have returned from hot countries have said things like, "Oh you must be really looking forward to it" and "Your jollies are soon!" (jollies = holidays).

FFS! Peppa Pig World is NOT a holiday!! What's worse is that my husband really believes that this is a fucking holiday. My idea of a holiday is:

Different culture.
Different country.
Nice weather is a bonus.

Whereas we'll be pushing a pram around in the rain for a week. I see it more as a 'trip' and no it's not semantics. And yes I'm PMSing.

YABU though. Peppa Pig World sounds like my idea of hell, but I love going to Devon and Yorkshire and other great parts of the UK. We are not going away at all this year as we are having our kitchen and bathroom replaced, but we're looking forward to seeing a lot of the things on our doorstep that we have just not bothered with.

I'm with you, OP. My idea of a holiday is to leave the UK and go somewhere different and preferably hot and just, well, not the UK. I live in the UK - why would I want to holiday there?
And yes, I know I'm bloody lucky that I have the option to holiday somewhere else.

Fair point that trudging around Hampshire isn't very 'holiday-ish' though. But I've lived in the county all my life so it doesn't seem that exciting.

We always go to Cornwall and I think that counts as a holiday.

Surely a "holiday" means a break from the norm (work or whatever). So location doesn't really come into it.

There are other places in this country to visit than fecking Peppa Pig world though, 2 year old or no 2 year old. You can't really blame other people for thinking you are doing the sort of sane, rational things that people do on their holidays rather than going on some sort of preschool cash cow hell tour.

I love holidaying in the UK. We havent been able to afford to go to Cornwall this year as we usually do and I feel bereft. I've done other countries/other cultures and right now, the UK is exactly the sort of holiday I want.
