Pregnancy And Implanon

Does anyone have any stories of it actually happening ?
Also, I heard that women that get pregnant on Implanon have a higher chance of miscarriage?

I had my Implanon inserted about 2 and a half weeks ago. I had unprotected sex multiple times (with my boyfriend!) prior to it fully kicking in. Now I'm starting to get crazy symptoms, and I'm really thinking that being pregnant is a possibility. I 'm 4 days late for my period, and I don't know if it's the bar messing with my hormones or not :/

Pregnancy on implanon is extremely rare and generally only occurs when people are already pregnant when inserted/ have sex without condom before it kicks in (7 days post insertion if after 1st 5d of cycle...day 1 of cycle is 1st day of normal period. It will very likely alter your bleeding pattern.usually people get some kind of bleeding first 8ish weeks then it settles down and in many periods then stop. Some lucky people period stops straight away.

If you had sex before it kicked in you need to do pregnancy test 3 weeks after unprotected sex (so 4 weeks after insertion ?) . No known harm to pregnancy but hasn't been associated with enough pregnancies to have loads of data on that.
How long have you had it in OP and when in your cycle was it inserted so you can see if you are at risk. Of course nothing is 100% safe so if you ever feel pregnant with implant/cook/pill etc onboard should always do preg test anyway. If you have symptoms would expect preg test to be positive if you are preg. They could just be 4elated to implant. hormone and often settle down

I had the Implanon inserted about 3 weeks ago, I'd had my period a few weeks prior. I had my last period about 6 weeks ago. I've had no form of bleeding at all since then. When I looked up an ovulation calender, it said that I was right on my fertile time when I had unprotected sex. The chances I am pregnant are reasonable.

I'm only 16, and getting a pregnancy test without my parents finding out will be difficult for me. My boyfriend and I are nervous, but if I am pregnant we will both be very happy.

It messes around with your periods, so try not to panic, but worth getting a test. Could your boyfriend get you one?

Did whoever inserted it not tell you to avoid unprotected sex for 7 days post insertion?

Unless inserted within first 5 days of your period you need additional contraception for the first week after insertion and should have been advised of this.

If you do a pregnancy test and it's positive you need to make arrangements to have the implant removed as soon as possible - it's unlikely to cause any harm to a developing foetus but it's best to have it removed.

Why on earth did you have multiple sex before you knew it had kicked in Shock

Yeah, the person who inserted it told me, and I researched it online before I had it inserted and such. I know it was stupid of me to do it. I did a pregnancy test about a week ago, turned up negative as expected. My boyfriend is as broke as I am at the moment, and both our parents refuse to give us money and the family planning clinic is really far away from where I live.

Like mmm said, worth getting a pregnancy test to make sure you didn't get pregnant after it was inserted and before it kicked in (test 4 weeks after insertion, so in 1 week).

People do sometimes get pregnant with them in (usually just after insertion) but it's not known to cause any problems so far.

Can you go back to the clinic that put it in for you to get a free pregnancy test? Could you afford to buy one from the chemist?

Good luck!

I second Stranded Bear's experience, I had my implant in for about a year, and only had three periods, but they were very long.
Don't panic yet

Start using condoms, test tomorrow morning if it negitive retest in a weeks time, if that is negative then you are not pregnant ( then stop using condoms)

" I had unprotected sex multiple times (with my boyfriend!) prior to it fully kicking in"

How old are you? 15? Hmm

I had my implant put ib 22 months ago and haven't had any bleeding at all. Not a spot. So although worth getting a test I honestly wouldn't panic yet.

I run a sexual health centre and we support a lot of young girls who have to go though abortions because of this attitude. When actually in reality there is NO excuse. Not of course that I would ever say that to a young woman in crisis.

Not my epic fail Hmm.

And if you are pg you will both be very happy?! Wtf?

You can't even afford a pregnancy test.

McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:00

It an epic fail, because she already stated her age but by the tone you expected someone alot older.

Report
sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:02

So because she is young it's ok to be reckless?

Report
McHappyPants2012 · 03/06/2012 22:02

Also she would be happy to continue the pregnancy So would even need to go to a clinic

I don't think this is funny AT ALL.

It's just bloody depressing.

You implied that young people are reckless with sexual Heath by assuming all 15 year olds are reckless, why did you say what are you 15 in the first place

Report
sensuallettuce · 03/06/2012 22:05

The OP is 16 - she is reckless. Point proven.

It's not ok.
