AIBU?

To wonder why Kate doesn't wear Diana's jewellry

Am I the only one wondering why Kate often goes with minimal or no jewellry when Camilla is dripping with them, and wondering what happened to all Diana's lovely jewels and why they haven't been handed down to Kate.
Is it because it has all gone to Camilla or is it because it all went to the butler, or is it because Kate/William doesn't like wearing jewellry?

Just because Diana wore lots of jewellery doesn't mean she actually owned it.

If her sons inherited it then it's up to them what happens to it.

harry wears it all

She does wear some. Her engagement ring for a start and some earrings that were remodelled.

If I were Kate, I wouldn't have accepted that bloody engagement ring, given the way that marriage turned out.....It gives me the creeps every time I see it, not because I disliked either Charles or Diana, but they never should have married....

Maybe because it's freaky as fuck to wear the jewels of a dead person who isn't a beloved family member? Let alone someone who people get hysterical about like Diana?

I was surprised that he gave her Diana's ring. That was more than a little creepy.

why would Diana's jewels get handed down to Kate?

like someone else said, she may not have owned them all anyway, and after her death anything she did own may have been given to other female members of the family

Perhaps Kate does have it, but doesn't like wearing much jewellery.
She does wear her engagement ring a lot though

because the diana sycophants would go mental.

jewellery is a very personal thing and it nay just not be her style. She does seem a very minimalist, elegant kind of person as far as dress goes and Diana's style was very 80s. Personally I think the engagement ring is hideous and would have been horrified if it was presented to me with such associations that I would feel obliged to wear it. Bet her own choice would have been a single solitaire. Why should she wear it? Most of it would be owned by the estate anyway and kept in safes. Its not like Will and Harry would have seen it littering the dressing table all tangled up together every day (or is that just me?)

Because Kate is damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't, so probably goes either with what she honestly prefers, and/or the best advice from the most reliable source/s.

Heavy jewellery is quite an aging look. She gets enough flack for dressing too old for her age as it is - imagine the increased flack she'd get if she came out dripping in heirlooms...

It's a very odd thing to wonder! She doesn't have it, or doesn't want to wear it.

Also - recessionary times...

The proles and the republicans would go mental.

My MIL is dead and her jewellery went to her husband and children.

This is normal I imagine.

Other answers =

She doesn't want to
She has a different style to Diana
It's all in a safe

Um

It is a really odd thing to wonder. You need to look up when she is doing a state banquet type thing that's when the big jewellery will come out. If you are really that interested Confused

urgh! i wouldn't want anything touched by that awful woman! still, if she'll marry her son, i suppose she'd wear her jewellery...
they're doing ok at the moment, the w-c team. i think they should carry on as they are.
imagine someone asking him if he missed his mum at his wedding. what a question! what did the expect him to say? 'no, actually, i'm rather glad she died...i wouldn't have wanted her hogging the limelight on my big day'?

I couldn't believe it when he proposed with that ring.

"Darling, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Please take this symbol of one of the most disastrous marriages in English history and say you'll be my wife."

Romantic stuff. Although my mum has a very similar one and I love it despite its eighties blingyness!

what an odd question. plus wives come and go nowadays, so why invest in the next possible divorce.

Well the thing which got me wondering is that looking at photos of Kate in glam gowns (which I do only by chance when she is on the news) she wasnt wearing jewellry. And I wondered if she would wear jewellry at Jubilee celebrations and I thought maybe it was ageing and then I thought maybe its because she hasn't been given any by the in laws.

my sisters husband proposed with a ring that was his mothers engagement ring. they divorced too.

it seemed like a bad omen at the time.

its not like she can't afford her own her parents are multi millionaires, i bet she has a few personal pieces at home.

Report
funnyperson · 29/05/2012 21:48

Well I think if she had jewellry at home she would have worn it. I don't think she has any. I think she is a diamond and white gold/platinum person. Anyway AIBU?

I think a lot of the royals jewels belong to the state. Maybe Her Maj hasn't lent her any yet?! I love the royals, and even I thought that it was a little strange to give her that ring. He could at least have had it broken down and redesigned!
Given that Kate often seems to wear clothes off the peg, maybe big Jems just aren't her style!

A lot of what Diana wore actually belonged to the Queen
and a fair bit of the rest Kate's had the stones remounted in a more modern setting
which is far cheaper than buying fresh and means that she can look how she wants
VERY few of the Royal family's jewels are "new" - some of the better stones are on their 4th or 5th iteration
