To get annoyed at parents parking on double yellow lines for nursery/school drop-offs?

I get so angry when I see mums/dads park on double yellows to drop off their kids - there are yellow lines for a reason!! It makes it dangerous for other children crossing the road and is an inconvenience for other drivers. I find it so selfish - the rule is there for everyone to abide by!

when the DC's go to nursery full time I plan to wander about in a high vis jacket by the school gate - moving people getting numberplates for the school newsleter name and shame page.

The double buggy has been hit half a dozen times in the last 2 years by idiots pulling out/in/ reversing without looking at anything other than their kids exiting the car... It is only a question of time before a children gets seriousley hurt, if i can stop this i plan too ;)

I also have some lovley stickers for windscreens of cars parked ilegally - not flyers - stickers stuck at eye level on the windscreen - after spending 5-10minutes removing sticker they may realise its better to park elsewhere.... first school parking - second world domination!!!!

This happened a lot at my childrens school, the Head spoke to parents and sent letters, but it made no difference. In the end a child very nearly got knocked over so the Head rang the local Poloce Station. They sent a PCSO every morning for a couple of weeks and the problem stopped. He also swings by every so often to catch people unaware.

I don't think he gave any fines out, more a stern word, a bit of "what if it happened to your child?" and a "move along please".

Might be worth mentioning to the Head, or phoning up yourself?

Our head took to lurking out there in a HiVis for a week or two, the problem stopped, but the moment she stopped doing it, the entitled ones started it again. Then we had a rota of mums with the Hi-Vis, but again, when that fizzled out, the problem recurred.
Getting a PCSO might work, but the threat has to be ongoing.

They were parking on the zigzags at dc's school. There aren't any yellow lines, but the pcso did put cones down the opposite side of the road so children weren't crossing behind cars.

We also have a PCSO who comes round irregularly to check parking. It doesn't stop it completely but seems to help.
My biggest bugbear is the idiots who park across the end of the walkway that takes you into school - meaning any children walking have to make a very wide circuit round the road and busy car park - very dangerous.

There's a difference between pulling up, hurling children out and driving away, all with driver still in place, engine running, and parking, getting out, wandering into school for ten minute natter about little Johnny's progress and passing round a load of invitations to a birthday party. Are they leaving their cars there unattended or just literally dropping off?

We tried making the half dozen safe, nearby spaces Reception and Infants parents only, and the very nearest space of all drop off only. But the entitled ones still abused it.

Luckily my daughter is only 2.5 so no school runs for me yet. The local school near me does not have any drop off points so the only place parents can park to drop off their kids is on a double yellow line. Where I am I don't think they have any choice.

They double park on the mini roundabout here. It's actually quite impressive the new and totally random ways they find to find. Bloody annoying though.

I had a car almost drive into me because he decided to use my drive to do a 3 point turn in and apparently failed to notice me Or almost certainly didnt care I was there.

YANBU. DS2's primary school is on a small, narrow, road with houses opposite. Some parents (it's always the same cars) park across driveways & on the double yellow lines. As the road is narrow, one side has double yellows & the other (the side of the houses) doesn't.

The parents who park on the double yellow lines also have to park half the car on the pavement, to avoid blocking the road entirely. As it is, they are blocking the road to all but cars and small vans - emergency vehicles would not get through and when there is a school trip planned the coaches ALWAYS have to wait at the end of the road until the cars have moved and they can get somewhere near the school. As the pavement on that side of the road is narrow they are also blocking the pavement almost entirely - I actually witnessed one father who had parked there telling a little boy off for touching his car as he tried to squeeze between the parked car & the hedge to get into school!

We have had PCSO's patrolling in the past, which does have a limited effect at the time, but within a couple of weeks things have returned to "normal".

Personally, I park in the next road (which has plenty of room - wide road, able to park either side) and walk the 2 mins round the corner. This is obviously beneath some people.

Personally don't care where other people park as long as it doesn't block me in. Had diplomatic plates for a few years when I was young and enjoyed the parking freedom.
Anyway, people are in a rush, they are (mainly) people working hard to put food on the table and need to get to work on time. I have worked with people who are late every day because the drop off took too long and i don't think it is an excuse. Leave earlier and on those dreadful "can't find my shoes/bag/dropped a milk bottle" type days, park on the yellow lines if you need to. Yellow lines and parent child spaces only serve to make people self righteous and pompous.

Can I ask about single yellow lines? The school has the zig zags but before them is a single yellow line, which parents park on. It makes the road into one lane, so you have to try and get round them inbetween the torrent of cars coming the other way.

If they are actually parking, and there is an option to park "legally" further away and just walk, then YANBU. Generally this is the case so as a general rule people should not do it.

However, where I live, when you get "carded" by the post office you have to drive to this industrial estate which is in the middle of nowhere sort of but deep within this industrial estate is the sorting office. There are 2 parking spaces, one is disabled, so really only one if you are not a blue badge holder, and on the road outside these 2 parking spaces are double yellow lines, then all around the whole area are double yellow lines.

The only times I've turned up and the one parking space is "free" but also accesible, I have been blocked in by people parking on the double yellows and have had to wait for then to emerge from the sorting office. The parking spaces, for this reason, are as good as useless really and thus people don't tend to use them but just park on the double yellows because at least then you can leave when you have collected your parcel and not be blocked in.

Rather than park on these double yellows near the door, I tend to park on some double yellows a bit further away where I am even less likely to be a nuicance to anyone, and walk over to the door, get my parcel, etc.

I'm still "wrong" parking on the double yellows but there is nowhere else to park really, for miles. Nobody actually cares - never been told off, or booked, or inconvenienced anyone else as far as I am aware - but just making the point that you can paint double yellows all over the place if you want but it doesn't ensure people wont park there if there is little by way of alternative. It creates disfunctional behaviour in perfectly rational law abiding human beings.

Its not necessarily the case outside a school, of course - though sometimes it is. If you have a nursery with 3 parking spaces that are always full, its double yellow lines outside and all around the immediate and not so immediate vicinity, then say a parent perhaps wearing high heels and stockings ready to dash to work, hair done, its raining, there's a baby in a car seat and a toddler who bolts, 2 nursery bags, bits and bobs, coats, hats, whatever to carry...of course they will park on the double yellows for 2 minutes. It may be technically wrong but it is understandable. For that reason I tend not to get riled about it.
