to think this saleswoman is a tit (arnold clark)

Well I have just bought a new car from arnold clark, horray! But only after a fashion with their sales people. I went round various garages, all taken over by arnold clark by now, and most sales people jumped on you the moment you walk in (and miraculously all have wives doing the same job as you). Had a long chat with a seemingly pleasant woman in one garage and did a test drive, loved the car but other things to think through. I had to leave at that point but said I would think and come back.

Always looking for the best deal possible I then went to another garage the same day and got the same car with a better trade in deal and a better service in general. Deal done.

Got home and the other woman phones up asking why I went somewhere else after talking to her and doing the test drive and what was it she did. I could have swore and shouted down the phone as she ranted back and forth to me for some time but politely said I got a better deal and thats how it worked out. Some people think they can win every time and thats just not how it goes.

This is why you don't give sales people your real number Wink

Crazy lady

I probably would have gone back to her first, to see if she could match the better deal, since she was the one who did the running. But she is WAY out of order! If you were really peeved you could complain.

How dare she phone you! I really don't like car salesmen/ people.
When I was 28, I bought a brand new car and traded in my little 1st car. I went to a big dealership in the city who promised me all sorts of extra deals- services etc. But offered me a really rubbish trade in price.
I didn't accept and he practically had a tantrum, saying that I was making a terrible mistake :(
I left him and drove to an out of town dealer, went up to the desk and listed everything I wanted and the price I wanted to pay. He went to his boss, came back and said Yes, that's fine. Deal done.
The first dealer phoned me later that day and asked if I'd reconsidered as I would never get a better deal than his and needed to say yes today for the deal to stand.
I said thank you very much but I had been offered a better deal an hour after I had left him.
You have every right to shop around.

I have had nothing but trouble from Arnold Clark, I will never buy another car from them again.

I am surprised you didn't go back to her.

"I have had this offer, can you beat it?"

That's the game Grin

She's annoyed because she missed out on some commission. She should not have contacted you, it was unprofessional. If you wanted to complain, you could but in your shoes, I'd feel sorry for her and let it go, because it's probably that she's not making a lot and was really disappointed.

What was she expecting you to do? Take back the cheaper car and buy the more expensive one?!

She should not have contacted you, it was unprofessional.

i think you will find that it is very professional to chase up all potential sales and that she would get in trouble for not calling you

I don't use them anymore. After a service they told me I needed 1200 pounds of work on my car and I had a major oil leak. Took it elsewhere to be told it needed 200 quid of work and somehow my sump plug had mysteriously been unscrewed to allow oil to pour out Hmm

If that happened to me notasingleduckwasgiven I'd have been straight on to trading standards. That is appalling.

Made the mistake of buying a car of Arnold Clark never again

After we bought it we found arnoldclark.150m.com/html/mail07.htm

They tried all sorts of tricks around finance. Bought it on my credit card in the end and then he tried to change the price.

One company I'd never go near again. Regardless of how good the deal is.

I hate the hard sell, a long time ago we went into a dealership and had a test drive. We hadn't decided on a particular type and wanted to look around. They then tried to really sell the car and focuses on how much per month we wanted to pay and how they could get that down but wouldn't actually tell us the total price or cost. He got his manager over who also tried to sell to us and wanted to know why we didn't want it and uttered the line, "But don't you like Vinny?" Seriously, I'm not buying a car based on whether or not I like the salesman. Now we wouldn't have stayed but it was a great lesson in (bad) sales technique.

It is ok for the saleswoman to follow up a lead but it is unprofessional to rant at you down the phone. She would be fine saying, it's a shame next time come back to me and I'll try to match it. As it is she has lost the garage a future customer, short term view.

I bought a car from Arnold Clarke after first researching best prices. Never again, my car didn't have a full service history as advertised.

I did inform them of the result from the other garage. It isn't over yet....

Not all garages are like Arnold Clark. DH is a car salesman and is well liked by customers, even those who choose not to buy!

Arnold Clark. Never again. They put the wrong (cheap) brake shoes in my car and I squealed everywhere. Mine were specific and needed a lip.So embarrassing. Eventually went to another dealership specific to my car , got them removed and a written report then had a fight to get my money back from Arnold Clark .Also AC charged me for repositioning my headlamp for the MOT .To this day I don't believe there was anything wrong with it and it was a money making ploy. After googling AC I found a lot of disgruntled customers. Never again will I touch them with a bargepole.

I'd write an email to the dealer principal, naming the sales person concerned and saying that it is completely unacceptable to be harassed like that. It was entirely your choice where you bought the car.

She shouldn't have harangued you over the phone - but as she spent some time with you and you found that interaction helpful, it would have been the decent thing for you to phone her and give her the opportunity to match or better the other deal. She is trying to make a living - like most people

I wouldn't waste my time going back to the original dealer to see if they could match the offer. If they wanted the sale that badly, then they should have offered that deal in the first place. It is for them to do the running around to make a sale, that is what they earn their money from.

If you don't want to offer the best deal that you have available then there is a high chance that your customers will source it elsewhere, that is the chance you take. I don't want to be playing games, I want to go and chose a car, get the nest deal I can with the minimum of fuss and deal with someone fair and reliable. If you a telling fibs about the best offer you can give then you deserve to lose custom.

Not a problem to phone I don't think if it was a professional follow up but ranting and raving? Awful.

I know someone that worked for Arnold Clark and ended up leaving as he refused to employ the sales tactics demanded by his manager.

All sales that work on a commission will breed this sort of thing. I hate being pounced on, being chased up and being given the line that "we don't work on commission"

Phone her back and tell her not only has she blown this sale but that she has blown any future business for Arnold Clark in total.
