And also wonder why the 'superskinny' don't have to visit anyone like the others makes me a bit Hmm

And why do they have to be in their underwear? seems to be taking the piss out of desperate people.

AIBU?

Haven't seen it myself, don't get it here. But all these types of TV shows are exploitative. And if the participants weren't in their underwear they wouldn't be squirming and therefore it wouldn't be sensationalist TV.

It's vile. Swap one eating disorder for another. Oh and have the pleasure of showing off your fat rolls/sticky out ribs to the nation whilst wearing flesh coolured underwear.

I always see these types of reality show as the modern day Colluseum. The public gathers round to watch his fellow man get slaughtered. I stay away from all of them. Especially Embarrassing Bodies. I mean, if you're so embarrassed why are you on TV?!

Yeah the underwear bit too me is too much we can all see someone is fat/skinny.
no need to strip.
yeah the fat people are sent to america to see 'themselves in the future'
but the underweight people dont which is very unequal.
Why arent they being sent to see someone who is severely anaemic, ill made themselves infertile via poor diet, it angers me a very unequal message.

This blog post makes interesting reading. Sums up everything that is wrong with SS vs SS.

I am a fat person. i know the effect it is having/will have on my health in the future. i dont need to watch a TV programme to tell me this. this is nasty voyeuristic TV that doesnt help anyone with a poor body image. all these really clever fat people who see the error of their ways and conform and lose weight for the cameras and are ever so grateful for the help. what about 2 years on when the cameras have gone away then?

The "contestants" on there often have borderline ED's, I don't see how forcing a mountain of junk food down themselves/starve for 2 days is going to help them. I also don't see how sending someone to visit a really fat person who clearly still eats loads of junk food and hasn't learned at all from their own experience is going to help anyone else?

Embarrassing bodies I can understand. The majority of people on there have sought medical advice but due to lack of NHS funding/non-sympathetic GP/not getting the correct referrals they continue to suffer. EB pays for private treatment and operations and all you have to do is go on tv for the privilege. Let's face it, would you recognise any of those people in the street? You've probably only seen their arse on tv anyway.

I agree. I was bulimic for many years and there is so much more to treating eating disorders than concentrating on food intake. I have watched the programme twice and both times the participants were distressed at what they had to eat. I guess not stripping off and not reducing to them to tears with meals they hate would not make "good TV".
