...should not be driven around the park playground?

We've had several incidents with these vehicles at our local playground recently. Toddlers being knocked down, children chasing them around and begging for rides then jumping/falling out. I think that they are in very bad taste and wrong on so many levels they are a stupid thing to bring to the playground as kids tend to flock around them like bees to honey and they have a number of safety issues. Isn't the point of the park to run around and exercise, use the equipment etc, not sit behind the wheel of a miniature CAR. They've got the rest of their lives to do that, after all.

This is not at all a light-hearted thread so do your worst Grin

God, why would you take your children to the park to do that? Confused the parents are probably feeling virtuous about how long they spend at the park with their dc, but they'd had practically no exercise at all.

Fair enough, Misty, if you're using them on your own property.

I have observed that the kids who bring them to the park do not actually get out of them to play but spend the duration of their visit driving around the perimeter of the play-structure causing havoc.
I reserve a special kind of silent-judging for the parents that let their children drive around in mini versions of these. Possibly the most loathsome vehicle on the planet.

YANBU. They are a pet hate of mine. I hate them & people that buy them like my MIL My DSs were "lucky" to receive one each for their first Christmas & they have rusted in the shed whilst their bikes, scooters and legs have had plenty of use! They never ask for them. I just don't see the point. Do kids actually want them or do the adults just want to see them in them?

There is one in our small town that goes in and out of the car boot sale on a monthy basis. by now the battery is so shagged it'll only run for 20min tops. Just long enough to get to the park before being pushed home.

It was out on Boxing Day along the tow path being tutted at by everyone showing off their new bikes.

Tis not an object of desire.

I hate these too. I thought the issue was children not getting enough exercise as it is, so taking them to the park in something that requires them to make no physical effort at all is bizarre.

When DS1 had a minor op as a small child, the hospital had a few of these that they let the children drive down to theatre in.

That is the one & only time I've thought they were a good idea.

YANBU, taking them to the park seems like madness.

Having said that, if I had the garden space, I'd get one for DS in a heartbeat. I wanted one sooooo badly as a child, so I'd be living the dream vicariously. They are impractical and silly and tacky AND I DON'T CARE! My inner child still yearns for one.

There's nothing wrong with having one and to say that they're in "bad taste" smacks of snobbery but to use it in the park playground is just plain selfish stupidity. There's also no reason to believe that the children who own them don't get plenty of exercise during the rest of the day/week.

My SiL gave ds one for his birthday a couple of years ago (she has a track record of inappropriate presents for the dcs, she doesn't have any of her own) DS was 2 and she gave him a Porsche.

I can't lift it. It doesn't fit in our car. Our garden is too small. It sits in our shed doing nothing.

Also, wouldn't it piss off your kids having all these other kids bugging them for a go.

A child tried to take DS's trike last week, that was hassle enough. It would be hassle times a million policing jeep usage.

Really?! This actually bothers you guys?! They're little kids having fun with their toys. Leave them be!!

DD has a pink electric car, but we have acres of garden (literally, we have a farmhouse) for her to drive it and we would never dream of taking it to a park or to school - why would anyone do that?!

Why are they in bad taste btw? Because they're an Escalade or because they're at toy car?
