AIBU?

to think mumsnet should have a "like" button......

like FB does, or better still, a positive/negative button like "The Student Room" does, so I can "comment" on a post with minimum effort?

Would save me loads of time :)

Yes

This comes up time and again and I totally agree

It would be particularly handy if someone has mentioned your name waaay upthread and you don't really want to copy and paste to acknowledge it because the conversation has moved on.

To be honest, I don't know why the 'nay sayers' make such a big deal about it.

No-and it's a very controversial issue.

I would like this too. Could do with a dislike button as well - although I suspect that is much more controversial

Think I might join you again Sparkling ,especially as I can't really explain why I think its a bad idea, I just think it is. Confused

This is why I don't venture into AIBU very often!

Yeah or a 'shut the fuck up' button Grin

Unfortunately, it did. for a while. the actual facebook 'like' button so that you were linked to MN on FB.

That's been changed for the recommend button, which, fortunately, most people seem to ignore.

However, a MN specific 'like' button that linked to nothing and just allowed you to show support for a post would be ok.

I agree. Grin.

Lots of old fuddy duddies here tho who hate change.

lesley33, the dislike button on TheStudentRoom works really well.... you can give a positive or a negative vote to a post (only once), with limits on how often you can vote on a individual person (to avoid posters being picked on), so I think yes, that would be a useful tool.

I agree too, I have been a lurker for a couple of years and have hardly ever posted, as i,m to worried about my poor spelling, but I know most of what goes on and love it here, but sometimes I would like a poster to know that I agree with them in a way which is quick, instead of the 15 minutes its just taken me to write this post.Smile

Folkgirl - didn't explain myself clearly, I do mean a mumsnet poster rating button, I was just using FB and The Student Room as examples of sites that do this already - didn't mean linking the sites.

I find it sad that your poor spelling stops you posting. You know the only people who will have a go at your spelling are the gits that have a go at everyone for something.

I think there should be a 'bun' throwing button.

If a poster gets on your wick you can throw a bun at them and then view their bun count.

Possibly in the thread list there could be a simple animation that indicates how many buns are currently being thrown in each thread.

Another forum I used to use had an 'ignore' option. If you didn't like a poster you could forever remove their posts, past, present and future from your forum experience.

oldmum - Yes I have seen that in the student room and I think it works really well. But I think lots here would complain about it.

But I wouldn't want it linked to facebook, just to be on here

Thefourcees - if your spelling is as bad as mine (dyslexic), get Google Chrome on your computer - it spellchecks everything you type, on any site! Grin

I think that it would be good. There are times when I have been attacked by posters and people have emailed me with support-they just don't want to post it when it goes against the majority. It would be quite nice to show that people agree, but are not wanting to come out and say so.

You did make yourself clear, don't worry! Grin

I was just being obtuse commenting on the fact that loads of people have suggested this before, MN thought the best way to do it would be to link it to FB and it was spectacularly unpopular!

I think an MN specific 'like' button would be a great idea!!!

MrGin - Why don't you start a thread asking people to support your bun throwing button on this site?
