When Whitney Houston died my facebook news feed was full of status's about her.... Yet 6 british soldiers have died fighting for our country and there is 2 maybe 3 status's about it! If u support our british soldiers put this as your status to show your respect to those who have lost their life RIP to all our fallen soldiers xx

you are right our boys who fought and lost their lives for our country will be forgotten , Whitney Houston was tragic, and had a wasted life, but Our boys deserve better. They did not waste their lives it was wasted for them.RIP to all our boys and may this Country never forget.

What has WH got to do with this?!

You obviously have sh*t friends as most of my friends have written something about the fallen service men and hardly any of my friends wrote about the death of WH. Maybe its because i live near the wiltshire base so it has hit home a little (most of my friends live near by).

I feel ashamed to say I accepted Friend request from her as I went to school with her donkey years ago. She also loves Olly Murs. She is late 30's.

YANBU

The very sad thing is, dead servicemen on active duty is tragic, but not unusual & not shocking in the way that the death of an icon might be.

I was equally irritated by all the status updates re WH as I am by the guilt trippy 'I wonder how many of my friend's will have the guts to post re dead soldiers' type statuses.

My status updates are my business I will post as I damn well please & don't openly mourn anyone (except the rabbit) on that type of forum.

YABU. It's very sad that the soldiers died but I don't want to write a fb status about it, I also didn't feel the need to write about the death of Whitney Houston.

Fwiw I have actually received more status updates on my newsfeed about the soldiers than WH.

This makes me glad I don't do facebook tbh. It's sad these people died but the facebook updates are irrelevant.

Even if I agree with the sentiment of any of these things (ie,I am sad about the soldiers, I do have a history of cancer in my family and I do think mental health issues should be less stigmatised) I have a pathological HATE of chain statuses, letters, emails etc. A status is not sincere if you are threatening or shaming people into support.

A status saying "my heart goes out to the families of the 6 lost soldiers" seems sincere. A status saying "my heart goes out to the families of the 6 lost soldiers, and if you don't re posting 10mins you are an a hole" does not. That is what annoys me. They belittle important issues and peoples losses. That is not ok.

There are loads of statuses about soilders on mine, but unfortunately its usually bordering on racist bile.

R.I.P soilders that have lost their lives fighting.

YABU. People can grieve for who they want without being judged. If you are so easily offended, get off facebook.

Statuses comparing the death of someone like Whitney Houston (recycled from the Amy Winehouse ones presumably) to the death of soldiers seem to suppose some sort of hierarchy of who is deserving of being mourned. Those who drink or abuse drugs - not deserving, soldiers - deserving. Seems arbitrary to me and very much makes me think - who are you to judge and then - great, I'd been hoping for an excuse to delete you from my friends list.

All deaths are sad, I very rarely post a status about the death of anyone I don't know though, it seems trite and meaningless, whether they are a celebrity or a soldier.

I get a lot of "my hubby, my love, my life" crap from a few people. Drives me nuts.

I don't mind the status updates that say "I love my DH coz he's just bought me a huge bar of chocolate" (coz I can relate to that! Wink) but seriously? Your husband is your life? Get a grip and a new life that isn't totally dependent on someone else!

or when people put:

I'm very lucky, majority of my FB friends don't post such shite (I love my bubba/hubby etc)

I'm all for professing my love for my child, but not in a copy and paste way - why would anybody do that?

As for the soldiers, found out this morning that one of them is from my town. Very sad for all the families Sad

I hate attention seeking tripe like "Why is life so hard?" or "When will our luck change?" followed by lots of "what's up Hun?" and then NO DETAIL from the OP, just "oh nothing" or "I'll PM you" etc. Pathetic. Deeply pathetic.
