AIBU?

to report this person (again) for Benefit Fraud?

A woman who lives near me has been falsely claiming benefits for almost two years. Her partner works full time and earns a lot of money, they have two children, and they most definitely live together. She claims Income Support, Child Tax Credits, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. I know all this because she recently (proudly!!) announced that she had been investigated for Benefit Fraud but 'got away with it'.

Given that I know she's still falsely claiming benefits, and has been doing so for a long time, would I BU to report her to whoever it is one reports these things to?

YANBU. Her behaviour is wrong and unfair on everyone else.

There's 2 people/departments that could investigate it.... Which one did she 'get away with it' with??

She said she had to go to our local Council Office to have some kind of interview, so I'm guessing she was being investigated about Housing/Council Tax Benefit ..?

There was a similar thread a few months ago. You too?

Sounds like they did their job and didn't find anything then.

What makes you so bent on spying on your neighbours?

I'd say "Get a life". or get back to the Daily Wail

If she is doing something wrong, it will come to light sooner or later..

You sound like a goody-goody but I find you scary quite frankly.

Working in this field I can say that "living togethers" are notoriously hard to prove and take up a lot of resources. Also, people who are knowingly committing fraud are very sly and take lots of precautions not to get caught. Benefit fraud isn't fair and you are NOT being unreasonable.

YABU - it sounds more like harrassment than concern for the public purse.....you cannot know for definite if she de-frauding- if (and I say if as you don't seem to know who you report fraud to.....)you actually reported her. I this thread is just stirring though

Unless it is actually YOU op? As you seem to know so much and so many 'facts'

Llanbobl Why would she say 'I got investigated for Benefit Fraud recently and I got away with it' if she wasn't committing fraud? She seemed quite proud of the fact she was committing a crime and getting away with it.

I don't know who to report it to because I haven't had to report someone for it before..

How do you know exactly what she claims?
Does she tell you (then you're not much of a friend), or do you sneak a look at her mail.
And does she have a goat, you do know it's mandatory for all benefit claimants, don't you?

Who needs an investigation? She has the judge and jury living down the street!

usualsuspect · 22/02/2012 21:18

You can report it to the Daily Mail

tethersend · 22/02/2012 21:18

You could try reporting her to the Department for Work, Pensions and Imaginary Friends (DWPIF).
