AIBU?

WIBU to suggest to ex that he gets rid of his cat?

Long story short.

Ex got a cat back at the end of May (one of his friends has loads of cats who keep reproducing) I am guessing as his DD wanted one (his with someone else, she lives with him but mother does not). Unfortunately he lives in a flat, where he's not allowed pets. He doesn't let the cat out, and in fact confines her to his lounge. Fine, I wasn't going to butt in, however DD (ours together) came back from a sleepover there with a massive 4" scratch down her back which she said the cat did.

She has said before that the cat is "excitable" (can't remember the exact words and whilst it wasn't that word it was something like that) and "scratchy" (that was a definite description she used. We have a cat and have had her since DD was 2 (now 6) and is always around cats (childminder during hols has one, my mum has 2 etc) so although I can't be certain, I'm 99% positive DD would not have antagonised the cat in anyway.

Whilst I am by no means a cat behavioural expert, I reckon that ex's cat is just plain bored in the one room and not being allowed to go out. So would I be unreasonable to suggest he tried to rehome it somewhere where a) it's actually allowed, and b) where it has more freedom to release pent up energy?

Or should I just not say anything at all?

Im not a great cat lover, but think keeping it confined to one room is incredibly cruel.

Talk to him. A cat can't live in one room - that's awful.

As he is unlikely to do what you tell him to anyway, there isn't much point in you saying anything.

Be a bit more clever? Saying get rid will make him do the opposite

That is true slavetofilofax. Whilst I was thinking of whether I should say something to him, I never thought of the fact that he wouldn't listen to me anyway Blush

DOH!

Well I will be mentioning the scratch to him in any event. But he definitely doesn't allow her to go elsewhere in the flat as when I go to pick up/drop off DD, it's one of those 'quick get in the room, shut the door behind you, his foot in the way blocking the cat from running out' situations. I don't know why he does it as it's not a big flat anyway (two bedrooms and a bathroom - the room the cat is allowed in is lounge/kitchen).
