Hello

As my names says fedup!

I had my friends funeral today, very sad as you can imagine, not my reason for being on this thread but this, i had a conversation with my DM late this afternoon (after the funeral), asked how it was etc, i then went on to say, Thank you for bringing over the shoes for me to wear but that that i did not end up using the shoes as they were all to big, in a jokey way i said "They were like boats on me", she quickly turned around and said "well i bet you wish you could fit into my trousers, oh no you can't can you, i would rather have big feet, than a huge waist", i was speeceless, so just said, DD is calling so i have to go:(

AIBU or am i just sensitive after today?

No you're not. This is horrible - I REALLY don't like people who go for the jugular like that after a fairly innoccuous comment.
You must be feeling shit and that obviously won't have helped. Try and put it out of your mind and spend the rest of the evening doing something pleasurable - got a good book, a decent-sized bath or a DVD? I am very sorry about your friend :-(

FGS what a nasty thing to say! Is she often like this?

yanbu ...that was mean.

She must have a thing about her feet.

Both comments were quite offensive. I know weight is a touchy subject with most but to be honest, if you had big feet you would know that THAT was a touchy subject too. Big feet is not seen as attractive in women so us with big 'boat' feet are easily offended by comments like yours.

You both were wrong. Sorry about your friend but try not to let this bother you.

It was insensitive, but maybe she is really concious of having big feet and your comment about boats hit a sore nerve...

YANBU, that was rude, you obviously hit a nerve :(

If she lent you her shoes you must be a similar shoe size?

YANBU - I would have been so upset if my DM had said that to me.

(And I have ENORMOUS feet, but manage to laugh off the 'canoe' jokes)

Shock I have just realised it was your MOTHER that said this to you! How mean :( I still think your comment was offensive but come on mum!

Thank you for replying.
My feet are size 6.5 and my DM is a 7, that is why i asked to borrow a pair as i thought it would be okay on half a size difference, as i was wearing tights and i do not own a pair of smart black shoes, (i live in converse or pumps), it was not me taking the mick, as as i said there is only half a size between us and i have borrowed shoes before.
ButWhyIsTheGinGone i am going to take your adivice, running myself a bath now, then i am going to watch Sunday nights Downton Abbey:)

Good for you! Have to say, I'm a depressing size 8 (my feet are the only part of me that will ever be an 8, sadly!!) but I've never been offended by big feet comments...
Enjoy your bath and Downton! x

Sadly I think you hit a raw nerve you did not know your DM had. While bigger feet in women are common now they probably were not when your DM was a younger. I used to break my heart at the jokes from the size 5ers when I was age 15-16 with size 8 feet and having to where boys shoes. What you both said was insensitive. I can still hear the playground jokers and it did hurt I felt so unfeminine.
