To think that some football fans are completely inconsiderate.

It is a pleasant Sunday up here in the 'norf' of England and I have just been out for a leisurely stroll with the dog around our normally quiet neighbourhood. I say 'normally', as all I could hear as I walked around (at 2pm-ish) was the inane cheering, yelling and bawling of a number of blokes in a house somewhere en route. The monosyllabic drivel suggests that they were watching a bunch of grown men kicking an over-sized replica bulls testicle around a patch of grass. AIBU to like to think that in our little neighbourhood (which is largely populated by families like mine with young children and/or retired folk) that it would be too much to ask for the football fans to please watch a match without bellowing down the street? On a related note, AIBU for being a 35 year old married man that has bugger all interest in this sport that seems to the most important thing in so many peoples lives ?

As a fellow football-hater I hate to say it, but I think YABU. People are entitled to shout at their TVs in their own homes if they want to. And in the middle of the afternoon it's not like they're keeping the whole street awake.

I'm with you on the not understanding the nation's obsession with football though. I'm all for hobbies, and obviously some people enjoy doing things that others dont, but people just seem to get so involved in football, as if their lives depend on it.

Glad you don't stroll past my house when the rugby is on! Three generations of males, allmshouting and bawling... grin

YABU - as you say yourself your neighbourhood is normally quiet, therefore it's not as if it's a regular thing, and you had to be walking around outside to hear (ie it wasn't disturbing you in your own home).

cockneydad Sun 23-Oct-11 15:03:02

I could hear it in my own home and they were several streets away ! I don't mind a bit of cheering, but this was a bit OTT. I'll go and grump somewhere else grumble grumble smile

crazynannawitchbitch Sun 23-Oct-11 15:05:49

I quite like to hear a bit of revelry, whatever the reason smile

rhondajean Sun 23-Oct-11 15:09:32

YABVVVVVVU! I am quite a repressed person in rl and its only through football that I can voice loudly all my frustrations! So the roaring for 90 minutes has a useful purpose.

Plus its obvious you dont like football, bet you are the same with something though - rugby/golf/darts/Xfactor??

cockneydad Sun 23-Oct-11 15:09:48

Maybe I am being unreasonable - they can't help it I suppose.

crazynannawitchbitch Sun 23-Oct-11 15:11:24

shock

rhondajean Sun 23-Oct-11 15:11:36

Plus if you are near the Manchester bit of norf England have you SEEN the score?????

worraliberty Sun 23-Oct-11 15:12:22

People enjoying themselves?? shock

The utter, utter bastards!! shock

Jesus go and have a good shag or something and chill out.

JeremyVile Sun 23-Oct-11 15:18:27

Well, one of two things will happen around about now - it'll either go deathly quiet round your way, or its about to get LOT noisier!

scarevola Sun 23-Oct-11 15:18:41

So whilst you were walking the dog, you could hear some people shouting?

Perhaps you could consider moving to an even quieter, or indeed totally secluded, area?

crazynannawitchbitch Sun 23-Oct-11 15:20:40

I hear Outer Mongolia is rather quiet at this time of year, mate wink

ssd Sun 23-Oct-11 15:21:56

jesus, op, you sound a real barrell of laughs

cockneydad Sun 23-Oct-11 15:23:59

I was chilling out. No problem with people enjoying themselves - a few cheers or boos (or whatever) coming our of a house would not annoy me at all - just don't need to hear something like chimps having their knackers slammed in a door repeatedly echoing down the street on my day off ! I have never heard anyone make such a racket over golf, or rugby or F1, or any other competition. Never caught myself hearing something similar and thinking 'oh hang about, the golf must be getting exciting'...

Nancy66 Sun 23-Oct-11 15:25:18

They're in their own homes for god's sake...

cockneydad Sun 23-Oct-11 15:25:39

A place with no football or football fans - sounds very civilized ! Where do I sign up ? smile

GypsyMoth Sun 23-Oct-11 15:26:45

Yabu

And your attempt at humour is U too

JeremyVile Sun 23-Oct-11 15:26:45

"oh hang about, the golf must be getting exciting" grin

worraliberty Sun 23-Oct-11 15:28:06

So you're a sport snob is that it?

You don't like football so you look down your nose at those who do and who are passionate about the game? hmm

Way to go OP you are better than everyone else....
