AIBU?

to think that baths are very overrated?

Is this a general experience of baths or am I just incompetent at bubbly relaxation?:

  • I have to run the bath to near-scalding temperatures. If I run it to a normal temperature, it is too cold within 5 minutes and I burn my feet adding more hot water.

  • if I fill the bath to a pleasingly high level, it sloshes into the overflow hole as soon as I get in. This makes me think I'm fat.

  • if I attempt to read a book in the bath, it inevitably gets soggy, either from my wet hands or from the steam. If I have no book, I get bored and start reading the back of the shampoo bottles until a decent enough time has passed to have made it worth running a bath in the first place.

  • when I try to lie back in the bath, bubbles get up my nose and the edge is hard. A bath pillow feels ridiculous.

  • DH decides halfway through that he needs to use the bathroom. Sigh.

  • by the end of the non- relaxing bubble bath, I'm all sweaty. Washing in my own filth doesn't appeal so I have to have a shower.

So, baths are pointless AIBU?

I'm a shampoo bottle reader and I get irrationally angry at the word 'Aqua'

Either call it water or just fuck off

That is all.

Me too lockets, I get all edgy if we go away and there's only a shower.

You are doing it wrong.

First, ask DH if he needs the loo... tell him that otherwise, he will have to go in the garden for the next hour.

Get your glass of wine, ipod with docking station speakers, tealight candles... bubble bath, and fluffy towels.. (one for body, one for head, and one to stand on as you get out of the bath)..

And then get in there, and relax to your favourite tunes... sipping wine.

Baths are shit. Ages to fill, either too hot to get into or almost instantly cold, can't wash your hair properly, dry your skin out, end up all sweaty...yep, that's pretty much all of it. They are shit. Shit shit shit.

I LOVE my bath. Less than 5 mins to fill and has a shelf around it for my glass of Wine and book.

Door is locked so interlopers have to go elsewhere.

I'm with lockets.

You don't need to read, just lie back and daydream. Let your thoughts wander to your favourite things be it George Clooney, prosecco, vanilla ice cream and hot choc fudge sauce or whatever tv programme engrosses you. you're trying too hard.

I used to read all the bottles and make up songs in the bath using the words when I was wee. My parents thought I was off my trolley but I felt like a creative genius.

I love a bath. It fills whilst i am getting undressed and checking for any stay nipple hairs. Plenty of bubbles and my kindle in its waterproof cover.

I find that a bath cleans the bits that a shower just can't reach.

I don't read in the bath though, because my glasses steam up. :o

I love my bath!

I jump in complete with bath pillow, glass of wine and relaxing music and LOCK the door. No-one dare disturb me at bath time.

I have to run the bath whilst I am in it however or I have the too cold / too hot thing. If you run if halfway and get in you can slowly let the water get hotter than until you have a nice warm bath without burning yourself.

Some of you are very good at the bath thing. I just thought it was boring. Before we moved last house, we redid some of bath and put in a deep tub. So I thought I should at least try it out.

Now, showers! Ahhh! Steamy, hot, quick. I'm talking showers, ladies!

I love showers as well in all fairness but now I am so fat with baby bump that I can barely stand so bath's it is.

And there is something SOOOO satisfying and about watching a bath bomb fizz and shrink in front of your eyes!

Especially the kids one's that have a goldfish inside them to play with once it's all fizzed away Blush

I've loved baths ever since I read in a magazine when I was a teenager that the best way to condition your hair was to wrap it in a towel after you've put the stuff on and then relax in the bath for a bit to let it do it's thing with the wet heat of the room helping. Add a face mask, some nail scissors, a pair of tweezers, a book and a glass of something lovely and there's my beauty routine for the last 20+ years...

not to say it's a weekly thing though, mores the pitySad - more a when-I-can-get-around-to-it thing.

So to you.Grin

I love a nice bath. You need a good bath tray thingy to put your wine on, and a dry towel within reach for turning book pages. And a decent plastic cover for your kindle or phone. But they aren't really for washing, just for relaxing.
