AIBU - Baby names

Ok i am stuck. Due another baby boy (well the wife is) at end of Jan.
We have ran out of baby boy names.

I like Tristan, Charles (charlie)
Wife likes Luke, Lucas, Nathaniel, Lawrence (i think all her choices sound old and boring)
My son aged 3 likes Eligat (not elliot but elligot)

So who is BU and what names do you all suggest? Advice seriously needed.

Don't like Tristan, every second boy and his cousin's brother is called Charlie, Luke/Lucas is a lovely name, Nathaniel is bleh, Lawrence is lovely if shortened to Laurie.

There you go.

Nathaniel is a great name. My DH wouldn't let me have it for our DS :(

Lawrence is my fave from your joint list. Is it the sound of the name or the meaning of the name that is important to you?

We liked the sound of some names but the meaning helped us reduce our list considerably.

Each come up with a list of names (preferably the same number)
Combine lists and rank them all individually
Give each position a score
Highest score wins

Or just wait till he's here and see if anything comes to mind when you see him - DD was "the baby" for 10 days and a friend who'd had her top baby boy name picked out for years changed when DS arrived and the name just didn't suit, so from my experience I'd be cautious of picking a "definite" name until the baby is here.

(But I do think your DS might be onto a winner Wink)

(We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl and got so sick and tired of being asked names we started telling people it was going to be called Chardonae, with deliberately obscure spelling - but only if it was a boy. Worth adding to your list?)

Thanks all.

We like to find a name before the baby is born as it helps us, and our children to sort of bond. (well we think it does) we talk to the bump, both boys do to and last time my eldest boy really seemed to understand what was happending.

Bloody hell it is hard.

Both my current boys are called Ethan (after Ethan Hunt Mission Impossible) & Jacob (Jake) out of Twighlight. I do like logan but she hates X-Men.

I like Eliot best, so think you should let your DS decide!

Sorry but I really hate Tristan too.

My current favourite baby boy name is Thomas, but I am quite traditional in my name taste.

Got to be Luke.

But I have a Luke and a Jake and another boy on the way (please be literally on the way!) so I am biased Grin

I like to choose names that won't make several children turn around at once when it's called. We have a Nancy and our boy is called Jacob too (which actually turned out to be more common than I realised but we haven't met many!). The names we had on our list were:
Dexter,
Travis,
Zander,
Felix,
Patrick.
Good Luck!

MrSpoc · 20/10/2011 16:55

Oh i like Travis. I also like William but we bloody used that up for my son's middle name.

No real reason you can't use it for a first name then so long as you're both agreed.

You just have to keep going until you have a name you're both agreed on. Easier said than done I know, my ex and I had the same experience with our DS but eventually agreed on a name 3 days before he was born.

Cameron
James/Jamie
Matthew

"Both my current boys are called Ethan"

Doesn't that get a bit confusing?

Report
alwayspoor · 20/10/2011 17:08

All a bit bleugh.

I like Eligat too.

Or, Ezekiel, nickname Zeke if you have to, but Ezekiel is a great stand alone name. I would have named our DS that if I had a choice.

We named our son a boring, very out of fashion name, and when I googled it on Monday the telegraph birth announcement came up on a site called 'Babies named a bad bad thing'.

So what do I know?
