AIBU?

Supermarket car park staff member - WIBU?

AIBU, SN, Waitrose and the car park. I must be stark raving mad, but here goes ...

I shop in the same branch of Waitrose every other day and have done for years. All the regular staff know me and the guys who collect the trolleys are among them.

This evening half the car park was totally empty so instead of driving round the one way system shown by the arrows I nipped into the "down" lane, parked in the first space and got out of the car.

Cue fairly large trolley bloke who has SN of some sort (not sure what they are because he never talks to anyone as far as I know) shouting "Eh! Eh!" at me and pointing at the ground. I couldn't work out what he meant and just looked confusedly back at him. After a minute or so of this he walked over and shouted right in my face "One Way, One Way" and pointed at the arrow. I said that there were no other cars there so I couldn't see the problem. He followed me round the car, still shouting "One Way" at me while I hunted for my bags. It was after dark, there was no one else around and I felt quite intimidated so after I had scarpered to the shop I mentioned it at the customer service desk. I just said that it was quite an outburst and it had left me feeling a bit shaken.

Now I am not sure if I did the right thing. I don't think he will lose his job over it or anything that drastic, but should I have simply thought "the guy has SN, he obviously needs people to follow rules, I've broken them and I should suck it up", or was I right to complain about him shouting at me?

YABU, you should follow the rules, he knows it, I know it and you know it!

Meh dunno really, you shouldn't have broken the rules though no matter how empty the carpark was. It only takes a car to reverse out quickly. Plus, they can't have one rule for you and another for everyone else.

I'd say he shouted because he got excited about the rule break and he probably doesn't have a particularly wide vocabulary perhaps?

Either way, I would not have complained.

I think Y were BU to complain, and Y were def BU to think its ok for you to drive round the wrong way.

Perhaps they could put him on P&C park monitoring?

And if it was 'totally empty' where do the staff park?

Yes you should suck it up. What a fucking horrible thing to do to report him. You were in the wrong.

I can't believe you complained when you were in the wrong. Imagine if he looses his job over this.....

YABU - I think you should phone the store and retract your complaint.

You were in the wrong and yes you should have sucked it up. Complaining was VVU.

Had he accosted you with no reason then yes, complain but you were in the wrong and yet managed to make it HIS fault! That is shitty.

Perhaps he also thought you were SN as you couldnt follow the signage or apparently understand or hear when he told you about it?

One way in car-parks is a huuuugggee bugbear of mine after someone went the wrong way, at speed, ignoring double broken lines and a No Entry sign in a car-park. They hit my car, resulting in my car being written offSad

I am so tempted to shout at drivers: "They have pictures of arrows for people too lazy to read".

YABU BTW

The OP seems to be making fun of the guy who ranted at her, well Im sorry but I have no time for people who take the piss out of adults with SN.

I would have done both -driven the 'wrong' way around an empty car park (its not the M1 ffs) and also complained about the staff member.

No matter what his abilities are or are not he cannot hound people without being told its not the right thing to do. He is working without supervision so must be capable of making his own decisions . He decided to chase you and shout at you. Not right for him or you. The shop needs to know so they can monitor him more closely perhaps.

YWNBU and worra Waitrose staff aren't allowed to park in their carpark. I would have been pissed off too if shouted at by a member of staff, SN or not

He pointed out the error of your ways. You were wrong and you should have smiled and apologised. Go back tomorrow and tell them you've had a think about it and want to make sure he doesn't get into trouble over it.

Oh dear and I thought I was being a bit harsh!

Why shouldn't he shout at her FGS?

A lot of people with speech problems shout when they're trying to get through to someone.

It's not like he bloody threatened her with violence Hmm

Shouting?

OP - you mock people, you disgust me

'I don't think he will lose his job over it or anything '
No shit! You will give them a good story for the christmas party , as the bimbo who drove her can the wrong way round a one way system and then complained about the member of staff not 'knowing his place' when he set you right

I predict this thread will not end well and possibly not be here in the morning. OP I think YABU, you knew you were in the wrong and should have apologised to the staff member for not obeying the one way system.
