Fippin' safety equipment

The only injuries my DCs have ever had have been caused my safety equipment. Tripping over safety matting at playgrounds, cutting themselves on door catches, and the latest, stitches in forehead after tripping over the bar on the stair-gate at the bottom of the stairs. Looks like they will have that scar for life Angry

Agree those stairgates with bars are potentially very dangerous - we only ever bought the kind without bottom bar for this reason.

And make sure you let who ever runs your playground know about the trip - sounds like it needs fixing.

I have a friend with 3 children. She has every piece of safety equipment possible. She is in A&E with at least one of them every week due to accidents they've had in the home (tripping over bars on safety gates, trapping fingers in kitchen cupboards with locks on etc.

My children are 2 1/2 and 1yr old. We've only just put a stair gate on the bottom of the stairs (as I was fed up chasing ds2 up them 100x a day) but that's as far as our safety equipment goes. Never been to A&E for an accident.

I do think they mostly cause more problems than they are meant to prevent.
